I am pretty new to Kodi. I have ordered the following box and just want to make sure I have not waisted my money. I bought aMXQ Amlogic S805 Quad Core TV Box. Is it any good? If yes any tricks or tips on what I need to do to it to get the most out of it?
It's never a good choice to first buy something, and then ask whether it is any good. Should really be the other way around. Wink

Edit: Sorry, I simply couldn't resist. lol
True but I did not know about this forum and I can still cancel the order. I was hoping someone would reply while I had some time.
Have a look here for the discussion on "the best box"

what do you use kodi for?
live tv? - (do you need 1080p live tv)
streaming?

do you live in the EU? (the box you've ordered is an android box as apposed to a linux box so it can't do automatic refresh rate switching)
do you want the best quality picture? (androids are not good for that)

do you like to have users help if things go wrong? the box you ordered isn't as common as other boxes where many users come forward and help out. (not saying your box wont have a community around it but its no where near the size of the chomrebox or pi comunity)

also how much did you pay so we can see if theres better options for that price.
read the first page on this thread-- http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=94268 EDIT: mbuzina beat me to it

I recommend you cancel your order and then start fresh listing what you require out of kodi and then we can match up the best box for you, also what is your budget.
ALSO unless you need/want andorid for other apps that are not Kodi, stick with linux (non anroid boxes) they have the best quality and just more feature rich since these platforms have been around longer.

whatever you think KODI can do, it can do alot more, best to have a box with community around especially for a newcomer. welcome to Kodi KingCrabb
I live in Canada. I am mainly using it for @#$/^& and if I can find a few streams I like all the better. I paid just around 42 pounds which is 84 Canadian dollars. I have a few apps that I like to use is why I picked a android box. Being new to Kodi and need to justify the money to my wife (lol) it was not much. I have seen some into the hundreds and I just dont have that right now. I need something I can move around easily.
I notice both here and on FB most are from EU. I would have thought there would be more from NA.

Thanks for the advice.
another member eskro decided to try the rp2 and is posting his experience here
http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=...id=1956422

his pi2 cost $60.85 CAD but have a read on
http://forums.redflagdeals.com/where-get...a-1669083/

I found a cheaper price here (on back order)
http://www.canadarobotix.com/raspberry-p...odel-b-1gb
$48.99 CAD (not sure on shipping)

seriously the community around the Pi platform alone should be worth the price of Pi. there are more Kodi members than any other. I'm still using Pi1 and theres improvements since I brought it 2 years ago. you'll also have more fun being able to talk about your experiences with other members.

dont bother with case. also you cant discuss using Kodi to stream movies on these forums but google will help you, so now that I know what you want to do with Kodi I can easily recommend you cancel the android box and get a Pi2 (you can use your tv remote using CEC) you'll learn whatever app you use on android can be got with Rp2
Get the Fire TV if you can.
I have an MXQ box (as well as others) and it works well. Kodi is nice and smooth on it and I use the preloaded version of XBMC that is installed. Make sure to update it to the newest firmware (109K) when you get it.
Wifi is good (better than the OUYA).

There is an OpenElec build for the box which I plan on testing when I have some time.

For the price I think it is a great device.
I read that the MXQ box has a problem with its remote and sometimes it sends the key clicked twice. I was considering the MXQ earlier as well but I didn't purchase one because of this reason.
I'm not sure. I use either Yatse on my phone or my Logitech K400 keyboard and I have no issues with double key presses. The few times I've used the remote it came with I've had no issues.

There are so many aftermarket options for controlling boxes that the OEM remote is the least of my worries when comparing devices.
Thanks lowridin_guy. The 109k firmware you mentioned, is that a custom rom or stock?
Actually I should have asked, which MXQ are you referring to?

My comments were regarding the MXQ with the button in the center and the red stripe in the top corner.

The 109K firmware is stock firmware.
