Is it possible to update MadVR without having to start from scratch setting up Kodi DSPlayer?  In other words, can I update MadVR while keeping all my DSPlayer settings?  If so, how do I go about updating MadVR?  And will MadVR also keep its internal settings when I update it?

Finally, I'm currently using MadVR v0.92.17.  Will I gain much by updating it?  Or am I better off leaving well enough alone?

Thanks!

It still is only v0.92.17 ?

There are Beta HDR-SDR Tone Mapping updates getting tested at the moment, so I would avoid till a final if thats what you want to do.

Not touching the "is it worth it to upgrade", as that's a personal decision. You can update madVR by simply downloading a new version and unpacking it on top of the existing ones. Settings will be kept.
That's how I've always done it.
Nice, now you will not need to search for the forum
A couple of weeks ago I changed my "old" HD HTPC config into the "new" 4K UHD. I did some changes and the system now is:

I5 6500T
8GB RAM
Geforce GT 1030
Windows 10 64bits
LAV filters 64 bits + XYSubfilter
madVR 0.92.17
Kodi + DsPlayer 17.6 64 bits

NVidia drivers configured:
2160p native
Desktop Color Depth - Highest (32-bit)
Output Color Depth - 12 bps
Output Color Format - RGB
Output Dynamic Range - Full

TV to display movies is LG OLED 65C8. HDR enabled on HDMI inputs.

After some testing I have some questions.

First one if is there a big difference between using MPC-HC as mediaplayer or DS-Player. MPC-HC (last official version 64bits) seems to render the video in less time (sooner) than DS-Player so I obtain better results in MPC:

MPC-HC (dropped frames at start then nop):
Image

DS-Player:
Image

In DS-Player seems to spend more time rendering the video and the time in ms is more than MPC-HC. Composition rate is something that I don't understand.

LAV Video Filter config:
Image

Chroma Upscaling:
Image

Theres no upscaling on 4k UHD videos.

Is DS-Player rendering time more than MPC-HC?

Another question is what are the chroma and upscaling setting for an optimum performance? I know this is very personal but I can not see any difference between Jinc and Jinc+AR and this sencond option expend more rendering time and also resources.

Maybe I'm wrong but I'm surprised by the power of Geforce GT 1030 vs price $.

Thank you.
I am primarily using MPC-BE, but the rendering times are pretty much identical between MPC and DSPlayer. DSPlayer might even be a hair faster.

The composition rate in the one screenshot implies you are using windowed mode with MPC-HC and fullscreen exclusive mode with DSPlayer. That could be your issue.

You could also try updating the internal LAV Filters in DSPlayer as described at the end of this post: https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid...pid1966566

After that, select D3D11 Native decoding in LAV Video. Your 2GB of VRAM is your bottleneck. Maybe DSPlayer is using more VRAM. I wouldn't think Jinc chroma upscaling to 4K would be possible with a GT 1030.

I don't think there a huge difference amongst chroma upscaling algorithms, especially if you are using a TV with 4:2:2 chroma subsampling. You might get a visual improvement if you were able to use any of the NGU algorithms, which likely wouldn't work with a GT 1030. Jinc without anti-ringing will produce some ringing artifacts. You might actually notice those.

Ah Warner has replied.....

From what I can see, you are not 12bit or Full, as it says 8bit and Limited.

Change the LAV Video filter to D3D11 and leave it at automatic for the most efficient decoding.

Don't use FullScreen Exclusive as it is known to cause issues, and gains you nothing as far as I am aware with nVidia and Windows 10.

The composition side was a bug that happened to me in FSE, that should go away when in D3D11 Windowed.

I do not think Chroma is that important so I have mine the same as you at Jinc, Warner knows a lot more about the scaling and may jump in, but I always refer people to this guide.

As far as Dsplayer and MPC, I see different things at different times, I guess there are more overheads inside KODI, but unsure tbh.

With current LAV Filters you don't need to hack anything. Say you want to use 2GB of RAM for buffer, set it like this:

Here I'm using MPC-HC to test but you can clearly see that it's using all the memory I'm asking it to use for buffer.
Thank you very much for your help.

No FSE mode and changed in NVIDIA control panel to 12bit. It was just a mistake. I thought it was.

Both recommend me to select D3D11 Native decoding in LAV Video. But I get this figures:

Image

DXVA-Copy Back:
Image

Faster rendering time in this last config.

Nvidia settings:

Why I get better values with DXVA Copy Back? Another question is if Nvidia setting are properly.

Look at 1080p Bluray values:

And 720p:

Thank you again for your help.
I'm not sure why there is a difference. There is a chance DXVA2 copy-back is producing inaccurate rendering stats. You are already getting way more performance from a GT 1030 than I've seen before. Try pushing the settings to about 37 ms and see if you get any dropped frames. If not, then the rendering times must be accurate.

Also, make sure D3D11 is set to Automatic (Native) and not the GPU. If you select the GPU, it reverts to a slower copy-back.
I'm using Plex for Kodi and DSPlayer and embedded subtitles work fine but external ones don't show up.
When I use the default player instead of DSPlayer, they show up.
When I play the file back directly in Kodi instead of going through Plex for Kodi, they show up.
When I mux the subtitles into an MKV, they show up.
Anyone have any ideas as to how to fix this?
Thanks!
I don't really have any experience with Plex for Kodi. It could be that it is not compatible. The only place that you can make adjustments is in LAV Splitter. Try checking and unchecking some of the options there like only send forced subtitles.

What you consider to push the settings? We take the group of 1080p23 for this example. After playing a while with the settings this is the most stable config I have:

If we change only the chroma from Low to Medium some frames are dropped. About 1/2 per second:
Image

Please be free to recommend or change as you think.

I've tested a very similar video but this case 1920x800 and these are the stats:
Image

Honestly I can't appreciate any difference between NGU Sharp Low/Medium. But even between Jinc/Jinc+AR/NGU. At this video quality level those differences are not perceived.

By the way LAV Video is on DXVA2-Copy Back Native and Automatic. If I set to D3D11 and auto the stats become higher and video impossible to be played.

Thank you for your help.

Marky.
I'm not sure how different Plex for Kodi is than PlexKodiConnect in respect to subtitles.  For PlexKodiConnect, embedded subtitles work as expected.  However for external subtitles, XySubFilter won't load the subtitle file from a relative path (same directory or subdirectory called, subtitles or subs).  Instead, I can use the Kodi Subtitle Add-on such as Opensubtitles.org to download and display subtitles for the TV show or movie you're watching... even during video playback.

To be honest I am confused in what you are wanting now.

You are image doubling with NGU, if the sources are good enough just keep the scaling basic as the card you have will struggle with all that. Especially if you say you cannot see any difference, then why push your card so hard ?. You should not get frame drops with D3D11 as that is what everyone for the most part uses.

I only have a 1050 myself and use Jinc only to upscale to 2160p and think it looks fine.
