Hi,

I am going to purchase an Android box to run Kodi and Netflix mostly. My choices are an Amazon Fire TV box - I know Kodi will need to be installed - or an MXQ Smart Box.

Seems to me that the Amazon Fire is the superior hardware but needs Kodi installing, whereas the MXQ Smart Box is of less well known quality but fully loaded with Kodi apps.

Any comments and observations on making this choice would be most welcome.

Also looking for the best choice of MQX box available in the UK should I go that route.

I am aware that Kodi has been removed from the Amazon store - can it still be manually installed?

Thanks very much.
Hi I would recommend Amazon Fire / Stick and lots of how to side load kodi videos available in YouTube. -- Ben
This is my suggested box. http://www.google.com/nexus/player/
Did you read the post in this thread, for superior results above all other Android boxes you have to get a media player from MINIX. This is not because they are a forum sponsor but because they provide the best Android Firmware support, far above everyone else.
If you don't need 4K TV then the 1080p / AMlogic S805 MINIX NEO X6 is well priced. it will give you HEVC/H265 decoding.

Thanks. I am a bit concerned about the proprietary Android and in particular about Amazons aggressive stance towards Kodi -they may block it all together on the box.

Thanks. I have Nexus phones and tablets here and like them a lot. The only downside with this box as far as I can tell is a lack or ports, For example, I want an optical audio port to hook up to my home cinema setup.

Sounds excellent Smile

Where can I see more details and purchase one of these boxes?
Ironically just search on Amazon and cross reference the various boxes with AMlogic S80x SoC/CPU's against this chart:

The NVIDIA Shield will also have the very good Kodi and Firmware support going forward into the future
Yes if you need 10 bit 60fps 4k hevc you need shield.
Nvidia Shield TV. I love mine
Avoid minix if you wanna watch nettlix. You will be limited to 480p resolution. Get the firetv, or spend more for the shield. You will be happy with either one.
Is there any work around for the Netflix on minix? I have been considering one.
nvidia shield for power and hd netflix. But argueably amazon for the extra hd subscription apps is still an affordable choice. Great remote and cec has always worked for my tv's on both firetv/stick.
If you want HD Netflix, your only choices are actually android TV devices (shield, np) or the Amazon ones. Due to Netflix policy, all other devices (I know of) will be limited to 480p
Does Netflix pull that crap on Android tablets too? If so, that sucks.
