Is there a place or site that can explain what the error log is telling me?

Log file/Advanced (wiki) The wiki's are a gold mine of information, Turing on debugging in the system settings will tell you more. Clearly you have an issue otherwise you wouldn't be looking into the log file or are you just curious?

I tried to add espn3 addon from the kodi repository. Went through all the motions up to clicking on replay 10 days and get espn3 error check the log for more information. I want to figure out the error and fix it if I can,

You might be better off posing the question with the add-on thread. The error you'll see is just a general error for the failure of that script. In all likelyhood, the add-on requires an update, broken links or incompatibility with newer Kodi builds.

Very possible the author has abandoned the add-on.
