Story:
I was running very stable on 17.0 Linux mint and on an earlier version of KODI. OS Drive had a catastrophic failure (not even recognized by bios anymore) so replaced with a new drive and built from scratch with latest and greatest OS and KODI.

Now the screen freezes up randomly and the sound continues playing. I can't get break out except by SSH'ing into the system and issuing a sudo reboot 0. Killing the kodi.bin does nothing.

Please let me know if you have any ideas, any help would be appreciated. I have included hardware, OS info, debug logs, dmesg and compositor configuration.

Hardware:
ASUS AT5IONT-I BGA 559 NM10 SATA 3 Gb/s HDMI Intel NM10 Mini ITX DDR3 800 BGA 559 Motherboard
OCZ Technology 60 GB Agility 3 SATA III Solid State Drive AGT3-25SAT3-60G
2 of Kingston ValueRAM 2GB 800MHz DDR3 Non-ECC CL6 SODIMM Notebook Memory
Antec Mini ITX Case ISK300-65 (not that this one really matters)

OS:
Linux mint 17.2 XFCE ( Ubuntu 14.04.3 LTS, kernel: Linux x86 64-bit version 3.16.0-38-generic)
Compton compositor used this guide: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2144468

kodi:
Kodi (15.1 Git:d496682). Platform: Linux x86 64-bit
Kodi compiled Aug 16 2015 by GCC 4.8.4 for Linux x86 64-bit version 3.13.11 (199947)

Log stuff:
kodi.log crash http://pastebin.com/j2T77tff
dmesg kodi crash http://pastebin.com/9yXgSU9X
Compoton.conf kodi crash http://pastebin.com/whLHNhGi
Looking through the forums more I think this might be the problem in my kodi.log:
21:52:05 T:140719494678464 NOTICE: GL_RENDERER = Gallium 0.4 on NVA8

Mint usually prompts for proprietary driver selection on install...not any more, so I f'd up. Got the proprietary drivers going:

so far looks to be stable....sorry for wasting everyone's time...hopefully this helps someone else later. Will open another thread if this instability comes back.
You're absolutely right.

Don't use nouveau drivers, and you already changed it Wink. So instability shouldn't come back.
