This is a special branch for RockChip rk3368 platform. First of all, you need the lastest verson of rk3368 sdk
It request a library name "librkffplayer.so", you can find it on lastest version rk3368 sdk. And the more important thing is, you need a device run with rk3368, such as Zidoo X6, which had deep modified to meet this new speicial version.
So I don't know if it's relevant for rk3288 and rk3188, there is no apk so I can't even test it.

If you have eg. a Tronsmart or Beelink RK3368, you can try this Kodi
http://www.freak-tab.de/wasser/wasser-kodi-15.2rc2.apk for Rockchip devices.
It will also work on RK3288 devices with new firmware, only certain manufacturers have it at the moment for RK3288.

According to this document from Rockchip, there are 3 people from Rockchip that helped with their Kodi.
Zidoo is maintaining the updates to the code on their github account to comply with GPL and did the majority of the testing.
That is why Rockhip says in the document companies should use that code, as they can't be held responsible for companies not complying with GPL.

They can be held responsible for using the Kodi name which we own.

Rockchip should start using MediaCodec as libstagefright will be removed next version.

They provide the source code on zidoo's github account.
So if they name Kodi to something different and change splash screen and all Kodi names inside Kodi and Kodi source code to something else, it will be fine or not?
If they name it something different, do they still have to provide the source code of their modifications as it doesn't infringe on the Kodi brand anymore, just curious?

What Zidoo is doing, changing the splash screen to their company logo, is that also wrong?
Their source code still reference the name 'Kodi' in several places and the Kodi app in their firmware is still called Kodi.apk with the blue Kodi icon logo.

Would the above wasser apk file load alongside my current V16 installation? Does it have an independent signature?

I tried waser-kodi but I have Tronsmart R28 RK3288 (I use stock firmware 111k4) and I don't know what is the new firmware you're taking about...
Where I can find the new firmware suitable for R28?

It has the same signature as Kodi, so you have to uninstall your Kodi first.
Wasser Kodi is based on Zidoo Kodi source rebased on a newer 15rc2 Kodi source instead of Zidoo's own that is based on 15.1 Kodi source.

You can try a better custom ROM here - http://freaktab.com/forum/tv-player-supp...eelink-r89
The Beelink and Tronsmart devices are near identical.
If something doesn't work, you can always flash back stock firmware.
But this custom firmware doesn't support the new RKCodec from Rockchip yet.
But Mediacodec in normal Kodi or SPMC 15 is also working great on RK3288 devices with older firmware pre July 2015.
Will have to wait for firmware newer than 30.09.15 for RK3288 devices.
For RK3368 devices it's already working.

Anyone know why official Kodi 15.2 rc1 for Android only shows UI at 1080p 11hz and not 30 or 60hz ?
Kodi 15.0 for Android still had correct framerate of 60hz.
Is it fixed in the latest nightly builds for Android?

You can extract it from Zidoo X6 firmware from one of their ota updates on their forum.
It will only work on Zidoo X6 or Tronsmart R68 RK3368 devices so far.
(2015-10-11, 10:29)Ben.Efrati Wrote: [ -> ]That's true that Kodi runs on Rockchip devices.
BUT, the only hardware acceleration works well is RKLibstagefright (Which not exist in official Kodi)!
When I use SPMC and enable RKLibstagefright the video is smooth and there is not any stuttering, but there is only mediacodec on official Kodi. When watching live tv via DVB-T, the video is black and there is only sound.
This video plays good (video+audio) only when hardware acceleration disabled on Kodi 15.2RC3. when enable the HW there is only audio.

This is why RK3XXX beginning to feel abandoned

I am glad to see I am not the only one who feels this way.

And for those who say mediacodec or libstagefright is good enough...

First lets get my setup out of the way...

MK902 RK3188
ROM: SMIC717394 4.4 (kitkat) V2

I have both KODI 15.2 and SPMC 15.0 installed. (Yes they can be installed side by side)

Test video: Big Buck Bunny 1080p H264

SPMC 15.0 (rklibstagefright) plays this all the way through with no frame drop
KODI 15.2 (libstagefright) unwatchable. Nearly 50% frame drop
KODI 15.2 (mediacodex) unwatchable. Nearly 50% frame drop

So yes, there is good reason for RK#### owners to feel abandoned.

Thanks! It looks like they removed the firmware update from their US website. I found another link to it here http://apidl.zidoo.tv/zidoo_x6/ZIDOO_X6%...18_ota.zip
I downloaded http://apidl.zidoo.tv/zidoo_x6/ZIDOO_X6%...18_ota.zip and found \ZIDOO_X6 Pro_v1.0.18_ota\system\preinstall\kodi.apk. It doesn't run on Wasser's Lollipop. I'll have to try it on Kitkat tonight and see if it works. It's 15.1 Zidoo Kodi. All of the APK files have been backdated to 12/23/2104 for some odd reason.
@mo123 what rom are you using to test the Zidoo Kodi 15.1? I tested Wasser Lollipop and Kitkat for RK3288 and the Zidoo Kodi crashes before I can use it.
(2015-10-09, 16:06)RockerC Wrote: [ -> ]Outdated firmware/hardware can not be supported forever, so either complain to your hardware manufacturer who release the firmware or buy new hardware.

I have been thinking about this statement.

If that's the case/attitude, then this...

http://kodi.wiki/view/Android_hardware

really needs updating so that all the Rockchip entries have a red NO and not a green YES for hardware acceleration.

Up until now, its just an omission, thinking that the current implementation is good enough.

But now that the issue has been raised, unless someone is actively working on a fix to the situation, continuing to have a green YES there is an out and out fabrication. (AKA lie)

And the KODI team needs to be especially careful about this sort of thing.

Example.

AMAZON EXECUTIVE 1: Ya know it really cheeses me off that by banning KODI from our play store, we look like morons (again) and they got some free advertising.

AMAZON EXECUTIVE 2: Ya I know

AMAZON EXECUTIVE 1: Oh look, they are now knowingly advertising that KODI works on some Android hardware for which it doesn't. If they are lying about that, we could make a case that they are lying about not supporting copyright infringement. Get our lobbyist in DC on the line. We need to make this a political issue.
You don't actually think we'll go chasing the zillions firmware per chipset, do you?
Somebody mentioned Kodi still works on pre-july FW on RK, iirc.

If anything, those kind of fragmented environments is a sure encouragement to *not* do anything specific for those...
