Is there a guide on how to share a folder on a win8 pc with the fire tv.
It has been ages since I managed to share and make it work flawlessly.

You mean "Windows 8.1 SMB share"?
It did not work. I did check the wiki before posting.
What's your issue, exactly?
Only peculiarity I know of is that you have to use your usename as id, not the email address. Username is normally your first name, or whatever folder name is yours under "c:\Users"

Managed to set it up but I get connection timeout. Tried the same on my ipad, works fine.
Ideas?
