Hi,

i have a question on the Kodi Settings running on Braswell, Ubuntu. not for 4K or new Codecs.

Hardware
Motherboard: ASRock N3700-ITX
RAM: 4GB
SSD for the OS

i have installed the Latest Stable Ubuntu 15.04.x 64bit. and done an Update.

Installed Stable Kodi Instructions found here http://kodi.wiki/view/HOW-TO:Install_Kodi_for_Linux

Code:
sudo apt-get install software-properties-common
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:team-xbmc/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install kodi

i assume that i need the Hardware acceleration "vaapi" and not "vdpau". please correct me if i am wrong.
verified with "vainfo" that everything is loaded and not returning an error.

i found here http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=231955 some settings.
i would like to know if this settings are the right settings for my Hardware. like i wrote i am not playing 4K content or new HEVEC Codecs.

2.) KODI settings
System->Settings->System->Video Settings:
Vertical Sync: Let Driver decide

System ->Video->Acceleration:
Enable HQ Scalers for scaling above: 20%
Allow hardware acceleration (VDPAU): off
Allow hardware acceleration (VAAPI): On
Use Mpeg-2 VAAPI: Yes
Use Mpeg-4 VAAPI: if you like
UseVC-1 VAAPI: on
Prefer VAAPI Render Method: on <- This version has the banding fixed, so enable that setting to save CPU cycles with 100% quality.
Adjust Refreshrate to match video: On

System -> Video -> Playback
Sync Playback to Display: On if you don't use passthrough and Off if passthrough enabled (* This makes no sense when you want to use passthrough, why? Read: http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=...d2107461). In current versions (Jarvis) passthrough is disabled by us if users wants to Sync Playback to Display to care for people that refuse to read.
Adjust display refresh rate to match video: On Start / Stop

While watching a SD(!) video, that is accelerated by VAAPI, e.g. mpeg-2 or h264, click the film role and choose: Deinterlace: Auto (Never set this to ON it will harm for everything that is not interlaced) Deinterlacing-Method: VAAPI-MCDI or VAAPI-MADI (Baytrail, Sandybridge), Scaling Method: Lanczos3 Optimized and choose save for all files. Remember to do this only in combination with the above "scaling above" for 20%. This Lanczos3 Optimized filter might be too heavy for BYTs, here you might - depending on the file - choose Bilinear.

Nope, they are not. Cause kodi's 15.2 ppa does not have the EGL changes. So your grayscales will be broken.

You need a kernel > 4.1 to run the Braswell and most likely also an updated intel driver, furthermore wsnipex mesa and vaapi ppa.

Edit: Besides the grayscales it should work fine with the above ppas installed - settings are also "okayish" besides the banding.

so i guess the best for me is one of your Technology previews with Openelec you mentioned here http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=231955

what is the URL for the latest Openelec Download from your Preview build.
and if i would use that Version the Settings should be ok i guess.

Yeah - I suggest: http://fritsch.fruehberger.net/experimental as Braswell really needs a brand new kernel.

The settings I suggested are the ones you need - at which part did I confuse you with my documentation? Something I can change?

thank you for the URL. what file do i need to create a USB Stick with Unetbootin?
*.img.gz ?
*.tar ?

about the Documentation.
after reading it i was sure that i just need this in order to enable 4K and HEVEC Support. (i was wrong)
i did not realize that i need it anyway in order to use the Braswell Hardware Acceleration.

Jan
Unzip the img.gz and write it to the raw device with dd or w32imager - it's the same for every other OE installation - see their wiki for some pictures.
ok great. i will try this. Thank you for the help.

i used dd... worked like expected.
Installation on the System had felt like 1 min and its up and running. after configuring some parameters (from your post) everything works great.

thanks.
How fast does it boot?
after the bios feels like less then 5 secs Smile and nfs is instant mounted Smile
