These test builds could possibly be unstable. Proceed with caution and always backup (wiki) your settings!

(2015-09-03, 13:22)FernetMenta Wrote: [ -> ]Kodi's video player is one of the oldest and most important components of the application. New features and ports to new platforms have long outgrown the original architecture of player. From its internal name "dvdplayer" you can tell how old this component is. In order to cope with current and future requirements like Ultra HD, MVC, 10bit depth, or PiP some elementary changes need to be done. The problem is that those changes require adjustments of platform dependent code. This dependency tremendously slows down development.

Ideally video player is a self contained component or service with its own life cycle and versioning. This would allow updates and upgrades independently from the main application. One platform could choose to stay with version X while others go with version Y. Maybe video player itself will be comprised of services with its own versions: decoders, demuxers, video/audio renderers, etc.

This is a long way and we need to get started somewhere.

What is this:
  • These are test builds for anyone who would like to help with testing the VideoPlayer rework done by FernetMenta and specific fixes/changes done by afedchin
  • No new features have been added to this version beside the current development done in Kodi nightly builds.
  • Make sure you have the latest driver for your video card installed and the most recent DirectX version. See Microsoft website for more details
The main aim of this thread is to help identify issue related to the VideoPlayer rework and not meant for general problems.

How to help:

Please include in your post:
  • Say if this was also an issue in previous builds or not.
  • A full debug log (wiki) posted on xbmclogs.com or pastebin.com
  • Possible crashlogs uploaded for download. Make sure you have the correct .pdb file placed in the install folder
  • The build date (in the download URL or in system info on Kodi). Specify which one you tried.
  • Details about your system (OS, hardware specs, videocard, driver etc)
  • Steps needed to reproduce the issue (play a movie, go to a file list, use an add-on, etc)
  • The more details, the better.
  • You may also post that everything is working as expected so we known current state of this development. In this case also provide full info.

Where to download:
Specific VideoPlayer test builds are listed below. Other files in the "test-builds" directory are unrelated to this testing.
Builds will be updated on regular bases. Make sure you always try the most current one listed below before reporting problems.

Windows:
  • Nightly builds
  • please also download the .pdb file here, rename it to Kodi.pdb and place it alongside the Kodi.exe inside the installation folder (usually C:\Program Files (x86)\Kodi). Re-download the correct file each time you are install another test build. This helps us to identify possible crashes.

Example post
Quote:
  • Hardware: Windows 7 64bit, NVIDIA GT275, driver-version 340.52
  • Debug Log: pastebin.com/xxxxxxxxxxx
  • Crashlog: Dropbox lin
  • Description: Video problems while playing back VC-1 files. This did not happen while testing KodiSetup-20150213-1f521fb-master.exe
  • Screenshots: Dropbox link
  • How to reproduce: Playing back a VC-1 video file. I have provide a sample file for download.

Any irrelevant post will be removed without notice!

Changes:
These builds are work-in-progress so need to list all changes.

i'm not able to reproduce any of these issues with the latest nightly
Are their anymore later test builds available?

Actually there is. Just build it last night and the first post should now have a new link.
I have a video display problem on 17.0-ALPHA1 Git:20160117-e9ecdb7. It was also present on 20160109, but was worse there. The problem seems to only be with video files captured by Windows Media Center via pvr.wmc client. These files are mpeg2 muxed into .wtv containers. Also, only occurs when in my skin the video display is via a videowindow control (FullScreenVideo works well). I can't repeat on Confluence, though, when viewing a videowindow.

The problem is that the color will jump back-and-forth from correct to incorrect (it almost seems like it is wrong when a key frame is shown and then corrects itself). In 20160109 it never corrected but remained bad. It's almost as though one color channel is missing:

Tech details:

OS: Windows 7 sp1 x64
GPU: NVidia GTX-970
Driver: WHQL GeForce 347.25
Monitor: 1080p@60 (native) via HDMI

Debug: http://xbmclogs.com/pjbucntj2

GuiSettings: http://xbmclogs.com/pb7fsgica

I went into settings and turned off "allow hardware acceleration DXVA2" (<usedxva2>off) and that did fix it.

Can you provide a small sample of the video?
I've tested the KodiSetup-20160122-e1637b4-master version.
People always post to report issues, i was hopping reporting good news as "everything is fine" for change, unfortunately...Sad

I have set "sync display to video", the PC is linked by HDMI to an audio receiver, linked by HDMI to my TV.
As allmost all my files are at 23.976fps, i've set the default display refresh at 23.976fps, to minimize the display change.

I have a file where Op/Ed are at 30fps, and episode is at 24fps. File is globaly tagged at 24fps.
So, when i start this file, it begins at 24fps, display is changed and set at 24fps when file start. After a few seconds, Kodi realise that video is at 30fps (this is the Op) and so change display at 30fps.
With Jarvis_rc1, no issues. I've started this file several times with KodiSetup-20160122-e1637b4-master, always have issue.
Once, the issue occured at the begining, at the first change of display. All the other times, issue occured during the second display change.
Issue is the following :
When display changes, screen stay black, and audio stops after a few seconds. But Kodi apparently is not frozen or crashed, because if i hit "Stop", after a little while (around 20s), i come back to the GUI.

You have the log file here. The video with issue is the one at the end of the log file.

PM me if you want to get the file.
I will when i have time, but if didn't do it before, it's because i didn't see anything in the commits of the master branch which can be related to this issue. And as i do my post in work during lunch break, of the tests i've done previous day at home, if each time there is a new build between and i'm asked to test with it, it will never finish...
Is there a specific commit in the master branch between the build i've used and the one you're want me to test you think that can solve the issue ? The version i've used was the most up to date when i downloaded it and made my test.

Does this include the MVC work you've done recently? Would be very eager to test it out!

No.
Tested with KodiSetup-20160125-864fec6-master, exact same behavior as i suspected.
So, i repeat what i've said in post #8, you have a log in this same post, and PM me if you want the file.
Tested with KodiSetup-20160130-166f3e9-master.
Results are even worse.
I've made several tries, this time the black screen and audio stop occurs directly on the first screen change. Once i have to reset the PC because Kodi Gui didn't even came back, it stayed on the black screen.

You can have another log file here, of black screen and audio stop, and GUI came back after around 30s-40s i've several times pressed the stop key.

Edit : Of course, as already said, if you want me to provide the file, PM me.
Please try tomorrow nightly it will contain bug fix of locking GUI dirung 30-40s
