Full Version: HowTo turn external audio amplifier ON/OFF?

Hi,
I run kodi on an allways-on wetek.play box. It is connected to a (homemade) external audio amplfier.

I want to turn this amplifier on and off as needed by kodi.
This question is NOT about hardware but about how to find out if kodi currently outputs sound. Lets assume a I have the physical connection setup and two shellscripts to turn the amp ON and OFF.

I found an option in audio settings called "keep audio device alive" (or similar) that seems to allow to set a timeout of silence after that the audio device is closed.

So my questions are:
  • Am I right about the behaviour of the "keep audio device alive" setting?
  • Is it possible to run a user-defined shell script whenever this audio-device is opened or closed?
  • How would this be done? Is there a suiteable addon/plugin?
  • How could I find out (maybe log messages) if kodi enabled/disabled its audio interface?

thank you for your answers
