Of course this may not be a problem with Kodi, but with the interface with the keyboard I use.
But when using my Logitech wireless keyboard, for the LIbrary mode of music, the tab is stuck out in the open fashion and obscures the elements behind.
There must be a key I am not using correctly
Appreciate any suggestions for a beginner.

Sounds like your pressing left and accessing the blade menu. Press right and it should disappear.

Thanks, helta...you are quite correct...Although I wasn't pressing anything, the useful key is the right arrow on my particular keyboard. Pressing it once opens the tab (which I didn't know) and pressing it again closes it. Thanks very much (from elsewhere in the Great White North)
