We keep telling you that this can't be done. We cannot just magically inject Google Chrome, an already compiled binary application, into Kodi. The most that can be done is simply launching Google Chrome as a separate application, which is what the current Netflix add-on does.

Quote:...if it's not part of the official Kodi project it will be relegated to "unofficial" status...

So this really does just come down to the add-on being called "unofficial"? I'm with Nate on this one, and I think you're just trolling at this point. Well played.
@opensorce We don't want a solution that's only working on a subset of our supported platforms, nor do we like hacks much. Also, you have your POV, we have ours so you better deal with it. As much as I'd love to see proper Netflix support in Kodi I don't think this will happen any time soon.
Didn't read the thread honestly, but would love to know current status/links, if any
no action for the last 4 years, it's dead jim Smile
It's shame! But thanks, anyway Smile
nope, it's not dead. He's working on it again and it looks promising (working on Windows and Linux already).
Why do I want a browser on a 10 foot interface?

I am lacking the imagination why someone wants to torture himself with the awkwardness of using a browser with a remote control e.g. pocking characters with the infamous kodi keyboard.
Because it opens up payback of media content on any media website for which an addon might not exist. So in the UK for example this may allow viewing of Sky channels and BT Sport via their websites.

You have probably misunderstood the purpose for wanting this. It is not for the purpose of having a web-browser front-end like on your desktop PC which you would interface with a keyboard and mouse the same way as on your computer.

Instead, having a "HTML Layout Engine" like example Chromium (the same engine that powers Chrome) integrated into Kodi would allow media content providers to for example port already available HTML5 based media apps to Kodi. Meaning that in theory, you would in the future hopefully not need to run unofficial addons for Netflix and HBO, etc. in Kodi as you would most likely be able to run official their HTML5 based apps in Kodi natively, and legally (as long as you have a subscription to their services of course). It would also make it easier for Kodi community addon developers to make custom unofficial addons for HTML5 content offered via official websites.

It would technically make Kodi have the framework needed to run HTML5 based apps in almost exactly the same way as most commercial "Smart" televisions do today, as this is not technically different from how apps work on for example Samsung Smart TVs.
That I would love to see, having access to any/all the content providers within Kodi, this would truly make Kodi being the one stop shop for local media, pvr and official content providers like Netflix Amazon and Sky.

For me personally Kodi here is almost there, once there is the framework for html5 I can then hopefully have more4, ITV hub and maybe just maybe, be able to access my Sky Store account again, especially if I was able to export that library to my local library like I have done with Amazon purchases.

I continually have the conversation on why I don’t have ITV hub, which my answer is always the stock forum response, that this is a volunteer project, and if or when one is available I will add it!

Now once the framework is done, and it works, I’m guessing that it will be as simple as adding the shortcut as a favourite to the html5 site, and it will ‘just work’

For now, I will just sit and wait!!!

I don't think that having an HTML5 web-browser as a viewer/player inside Kodi would make it easier to integrate the content of HTML5-apps like Netflix into Kodi's own library.

If anything, having the ability to run official HTML5-apps inside Kodi might give developers less incentive to develop deeper integrations as each content provider want you to use their app to view all their content.

I would, however, speculate that developers could make Kodi's library do what Google does and list all content from multiple providers and once you selected what to watch offer to launch the official app to play the specific title that you choose.

Even if having a desktop-like web-browser available in Kodi is possible with integrated Chromium, can you really say that is also Team Kodi's "purpose" for having Chromium integrated into Kodi?
From what I understand from internal communication the purpose is indeed to have a desktop like browser in order that it won't be necessary to have an addon to use a media service, you can simply visit the website within Kodi which is particularly useful on devices where no desktop is available. Primary testing seems to have been with YouTube and Netflix websites.
