Full Version: [Nexus Player] Kodi Crashing While Browsing Local Content (SMB)???
You're currently viewing a stripped down version of our content. View the full version with proper formatting.
Current Setup:
5TB drive (loaded with video content) connected to the USB 3.0 port of my Asus RT-AC68U router.

Issue:
I successfully connected the SMB to my Nexus Player through Kodi, and was able to scrape for all metadata. HOWEVER, when I am browsing my Library (or even the Files list under Videos), it always crashes and sends me back to the NP homescreen after about 10-15 seconds. If I select a movie, it seems to play fine (I just have to rush to pick a movie before it crashes). I am running the current v15.2 build installed directly from the Play Store, and my NP is on the latest Android 6.0 image. I don't understand what the issue could be. The only other thing I have done was use ES File Explorer to place a new keymap XML file into Kodi to use the Play/Pause button as the Menu button, and the functionality of that mod seems to be working properly.

I've tried:
Flashing the full factory image for Android 6.0 again on the Player and doing a fresh install of Kodi. Still crashing...

Is anybody else experiencing this issue? It looks like there have been a couple people in the past that had the same EXACT problem:

Would it be possible that uninstalling the x86 version and sideloading the ARM version could work?

Oops! That would probably help. I believe this is it (uploaded to my Dropbox): https://www.dropbox.com/s/mprazfx2cusbs6...d.log?dl=0

I got that log by using ES File Explorer to browse to the temp folder under Kodi immediately after it crashed and sent me back to the Nexus launcher. Let me know if I actually need something different.

Thanks in advance for any help.

EDIT: Sorry, I don't think the original log had debugging enabled. I have updated the link with (what I believe) is a correct debug log.
I have a similar setup as the original poster except that my local content is on a NAS. I have the exact same issues with Kodi crashing and resetting back to the NP homescreen while browsing the movies that are stored on the NAS. It resets between 10-120 seconds after starting to browse the movies. I narrowed it down to the USB ethernet adapter I was using to connect the NP to my local LAN through ethernet.

The crashing does not occur with this adapter: http://www.amazon.ca/Plugable-Ethernet-C...o+ethernet

The crashing does occur with this adapter (used with an OTG adapter): http://www.amazon.ca/dp/B00MAZ6NV8/r...ywords=Inateck. I tested it with only the adapter without any USB devices/adapters connected to this adapter hub and it still crashes.

I suspect there is an incompatibility with the 2nd adapter that is causing Kodi to crash on the Nexus player. The problem is I want to use this adapter with the NP because I want to be able to connect a Lenovo Multimedia Remote N5902 (using an USB wireless adapter) and a separate USB IR adapter so that I can control the NP with a old Harmony One remote. I guess I either have live with using the NP remote control and a bluetooth keyboard or find another USB ethernet adapter with a USB hub that works flawlessly with the NP.
I experimented with a couple more ethernet adapters and I am getting pretty strong evidence that the problem likely lies with specific adapters.

I tested two different adapters with the ASIX AX88772 chipset (which support only 10/100 mbps throughput) and both of those work with the Nexus player without crashing.

I am seeing crashing consistently when browsing my local library with ethernet adapters that are made with the ASIX AX88179 chipset (which support usb 3.0 and 10/100/1000 mbps ethernet). I tested two different adapters from different manufacturers and both of these caused the crashing.
I have a similar problem, seems no matter what I try, I always get sent back to the home screen. I am not tech savvy so I could really use some help in simple terms. Please.........Sad
Figured I'd come back and post. Sorry it took so long, but I found the issue after looking at a few crash logs. Turns out it would crash when it would hit a certain MKV file when scanning the library. It would crash right after detecting something like "MIME" attachment and "octet-stream" in one of the streams in the file. Sure enough, looking at the file in MKV merge, it looks like I didn't remove this attachment, and it was probably relying on other info from the file that I had removed during originally muxing it. After removing the attachment and remuxing, all is well.
