I've done a search and seen many requests, but don't know if it's possible?

Is it possible so that when viewing the TV Guide, if you select a show that's in the future, it prompts to record? And if you select a show that is in the current timeline (ie currently playing on a different channel), that it simply switches to that channel?

This functionality exists in most others (eg MeidaPortal, PVR boxes), and I'd love to be able to implement this here.

Another question - is it possible to launch Live TV from the home screen? By default pressing Live TV opens the channel list. I just want it to start playing Live TV.

There's an option in Kodi to have it start playing the last selected channel when it starts. Also, you can probably set a menu/shortcut for your home screen to play a particular. However, you'd have to determine what that channel is at the start; i.e. when you create the shortcut.

As to your other question: Kodi's default behavior when selecting a channel in the guide is to present a dialog with the show's info, and offer the options to switch to the channel or to record the program. An option to switch for in progress programs, or to record future showings, is something that can probably be done, but at the moment it is something that most likely would be skin dependent, or require an addon.

Regarding your questions about prompts to record vs directly tuning when selecting - unfortunately you cannot currently have it both ways (Isengard). You can set Kodi to either tune to a channel upon selecting in the guide OR have a pop-up (Information or Context menu) that gives you the choice to record (Add Timer) or tune to channel (Switch).

You can find this setting in Settings - TV - Guide - default select action.

Depending on the skin - you can have a menu item that will tune automatically to the last channel viewed. Or buttons to go directly to a specific channel. I use Arctic Zephyr and both these options are available to add to the home screen.

I just wanted to bump this to get this as a Kodi builtin: (E2 has it )
"Add timer" should open a menu: "Record timer" or "Switch timer". Where the last one should switch to the selected channel e.g. 1 Minute before the Show starts.
Then you could even add a switch-timer from other applications like Kore or Yatse.
