Testing v17 on nvidia shield and although HD audio is now working (thanks) I cannot get AAC 5.1 to turn into DD 5.1 by just changing my output to 2.0. It still comes out as PCM on the Avr.

If output is 2.0 - then no transcoding will happen. This is only a special mode for "SPDIF" configurations.
Outputting as 5.1 PCM is what I would suggest. If you really want to decode AAC 5.1 to PCM and then Encode it to AC3 again and output it (one additional time loss of quality), then make sure you have AC3 Transcode enabled.
Also add a Debug Log - as no one sees what is happening without it.

I'm going to leave it. It just seemed like a feature removed that needed reinstating but when you explain it as above its better to output as is rather than have an additional layer loss of quality.
