What system do I need for 2160p movies?

What codec are they encoded in and what bit depth? (There aren't that many high quality 2160p sources around yet for playback in Kodi...)

Yes you can.
I can play x265 1080p on my nuc Pentium.
I'm running a dev build of openelec available at http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=231955

i am wondering can i play 1080p x265 8bits and 10bits color also?
If I had to swag... no, not in hardware GPU. AFAIK, 10 bit is not part of of x265 hardware decoding and rendering, it may be available in software decoding and rendering, but I have no idea.

If I had to be accurate x265 is a software encoder that is used to create H265 content... The content isn't in x265 - it's in H265. (Same mistake often made with x264. x264 is one encoder implementation - not the codec standard)

Whew Cool sure glad I don't have to and I can rely on others who know more than me
So, my 6i5SYH died last week, still waiting for a replacement...
my 6i3syh died twice and i just got a new one last few wk. this time will not touch the bios.
Hi,

I purchased the NUC6i3SYH a few days ago with 8gb and an 240gb SSD. After resolving the initial issues of BSOD and regular freezing I now have windows 10 running without any of these problems.

The problems that I now have is my amp is playing HD audio as just DTS or Dolby Digital and not TrueHD or DTS-HD. In Windows under play back devices in supported formats the HD Audio formats are shown.

My 10 year old PC I am replacing which is still running windows 7 and an ATI can has no issues.

Any ideas how I go about fixing this anyone?

Cheers,
Dal

That's not a smart move if you have 0028 - there's a bug in it that may make your fan stop.

Are they having major problems with these things dying? Kinda scares me off to buying one.

Grr. Pedant in me strikes. x264 and x265 aren't codecs, they are specific encoders (i.e. bits of software that encode).

H264 and H265 are the codecs - x264 will generate H264 (and is very well regarded), x265 will generate H265 (don't know how efficient or high quality x265 is as it is early days for H265 encoders). But other encoders will also produce H264 and H265 code content.
OK. So I mean H264 and H265.
Quick question.

Buy skylake now or wait for kabylake?
