Hi

The other day i bought the Geniatech HDstar DVB-S2 device, but im having problems getting it to scan channels.

I installed the proper windows drivers here http://www.geniatech.com/file.asp?id=46

Im wondering as the LED on the front of the device is RED does this mean that its stuck on standby?

I didnt recieve a remote control with it so im not sure if it should be GREEN to indicate that its turned on.

My satellite signal is fine as checked on another box.

Can anyone with same device describe there LED status and does it work without remote control.

Thanks
I have this running on linux. It works fine without the remote, My LED stays red. The only time I think mine changes colour is when its connected to a USB port but no power supply is attached. then it turns green. On aside note, I never managed to get the HD star running on windows.

Thanks for the update. Did yours work out of the box on linux. Are you using openelec or OSMC. Ill give it a try on linux again. Did you need to copy over the deb-fe-ds3000.fw firmware. Last time tvheadend couldnt find any channels either so i thought to try on windows first. Tried connecting usb with no power adapter didnt see any green light but device manager says its connected. Im beginning to think maybe a faulty tuner i hope not. Do you mind if i ask where you bought your hdstar box at.

Oh and whats the channel switching time like on this device is there a long lag switching between SD and HD channels.

Thanks again
Im running on openelec,I bought mine on aliexpress, but they're back out of stock again at the moment. The channels are pretty quick between HD to SD on unencrypted channels. I did replace the power supply on mine after about a year as I was getting some problems and after days of messing about I found out it was the power supply. It 9V for some reason. If you in the UK I can help you set it up.

Yeah trying get uk freesat channels set up. Im using OSMC but ill copy over the openelec firmware drivers for this box as openelec supports it out of the box. What steps did you take setting it up. Ill get the box connected up here to test.

Cheers
make sure you install the backend as well as the pvr addon. Your adapter should show up under config>dvb input if its working. Mine shows as DS3000, i never tried on raspbmc only openelec.

What PVR addon do you have installed, is it the tvheadend htsp client. Does PVR need be enabled in settings --> TV before scanning channels in tvheadened.

Thanks
Yeah that one no. No you don't need it enabled to scan channels. Is the adapter showing on the web interface?

Yeah adapter is showing ds3000. Set predefined muxes to 28.2e. All coming back failed during scan. Theres seems to be problem getting signal strength. Does yours show high signal strength when scanning when you click on the status button?

Also do you mind posting what the output of dmesg on command line to i compare it to mine thanks
Yeah have you added you network under adapter from the drop down box?
(2016-02-03, 23:23)stuCONNERS Wrote: [ -> ]Yeah have you added you network under adapter from the drop down box?

Yeah added that. Can you check on your output of dmesg do you have the following line

Code:
usb 1-1.3: DVB: adapter 0 frontend 0 frequency 0 out of range (950000..2150000)

Wondering if this is causing the problem.
pull it out and put it back in again without resetting

i have this in dmesg

check which firmware you have installed the latest one needs renaming from dvb-fe-ds300X.fw to dvb-fe-ds3000.fw if you need the latest one.
I guess mine must be faulty. Isnt recieving any signal. Is there anything in linux to test signal strength or anything.

Thanks for your time anyways. Guess ill be sending it back. Think ill order from the site you posted when they get back in stock.
I dont think its faulty, Ive has that error you posted before. Try openelec.

stupid question, have you enabled the adapter?
yeah have enabled adapter too. Do you have a label number underneath your device.

my device id is SN:SU3000201505250223
