I just updated my Shield TV to the new 3.0 Marshmallow firmware. This has broken Kodi's support for 4K output. For some reason Kodi thinks that I am outputting only at 1080, no matter what 4K settings I choose within the Shield itself (60p, 59.9p, or 30p). I have the newest Kodi 16.0 Feb 20 build, which worked perfectly fine before the Marshmallow update. Shield is in fact outputting 4K as is confirmed by my TV, even when running Kodi. I really need help getting this fixed as the main reason for me buying the Shield TV was to play my 4K content on my 4K TV, using KODI! Many thanks for the help.

I wish this was the case, but unfortunately it is not. At least not for me now since Marshmallow upgrade. When I use the L1 bumper it shows that the screen is in fact displaying 1080 while playing 4k content. I can then cycle through different "best fit" in which case when you set it to actual resolution all you see is the middle 1/4th of the 4k content. This seems to be a complete nvidia marshmallow issue since VLC does the same. Everything thinks the default resolution is 1080 rather then the actual 4K selected.
How are you confirming that VLC is not displaying 4K?
If VLC is indeed not displaying 4K then that pretty much makes it a NVidia/SATV issue vs a Kodi issue.
I've gone round and round on this same issue and by all responses I've gotten, KODI only displays the GUI interface in 1080p on the shield and plays video in whatever format it is. Why the info button disputes this and the debug log reports 1920x1080p is beyond me. All of my other android devices get reported properly.
A native or passthru option in the SATV would certainly help in this matter.

Since VLC does not have an "info" button like Kodi does, I can only confirm this by actual visual inspection. I have a 4K video file that I have viewed many times on my shield prior to the update and the quality was amazing. Now when I open it in Kodi, VLC, MX Player, they all show the same crappy, degraded, colour blotched, patchwork that I had never noticed before the update. The visual difference is IMMEDIATELY apparent, it looks extremely bad such that there is no question in my mind. Clearly if Kodi says its 1080 with the info button and it now looks like this, and it looks exactly the same in the other programs, they must also be doing the same thing. I can also play the same file on my PC no problem and compare to what I know see using the Shield, and there is a remarkable difference.
So .. yes.. it does seem it is a Nvidia issue and not completely a Kodi issue, but I still thought that it was worth mentioning here since many Shield owners use Kodi and would likely notice it here.

If you can read the small green text, you're in 4k.
I have a 4K OLED tv and can read the green text via Kodi just so you know. I'm using Jarvis.

Looks like the purple text is legible from my photo but will double check again tonight. I assume legible includes even being up very close and not at a sitting distance as that would vary depending on eye sight.
