Full Version: Frequent crashing of OpenELEC 6.95.1

Yesterday I upgraded to OpenELEC 6.95.1 (Kodi 16.1) and am having a lot of problems with Kodi crashing - sometime when just browsing list of movies/TV Shows on my NAS, sometimes when playing a movie/TV Show, and sometimes just being left with no user input! I have randomFanart set to show when I am in the Movies or TV Shows main menus - sometime it shows, sometimes it doesn't - and in the error log there is something about artwork:

Here's a log which was: starting up, browsing around movie list, browsing movie sets, and crashed when trying to play movie "The Godfather: Part II". This situation has re-occurred many times with different files - all of which used to play fine before I upgraded.

All content is on my NAS's.

sadly, this is normal for OE, but no cause for concern.

OK I see that, do I need to do something?

I see over at the OpenELEC release notice that
Quote: ffmpeg updated to 2.8 (2.6)

So is the problem with OpenELEC, Kodi, or my video files?

UPDATE: Having done a HARD RESET of all OE settings, I reimported some TV Shows and got randoms crashing when browsing tv show episodes n list view, or when starting to play one. Then after a restart, that show would play, but it would crash after a few minutes on some other one. I thought maybe the scanning process was screwing it, so I imported my Movies, and left it overnight, in the morning the system was responsive, but I browsed through Movies listing and it crashed almost immediately. You might be better posting on OpenElec's forum rather than here.

OK, thanks, I have. If anyone here has any insight, or the same problem, here's the post over at OpenELEC forum:

It's not my experience that the OpenELEC forums work as well as here, and the problem could well be a Kodi (or a Kodi-as-implemented) one anyway as it's showing up when scanning files - Kodi? Database? Skin? File access or I/O routines?

In other words, I think it's reasonable to seek some views here for the OP. I have immense faith in the Kodi developers and community Smile

That said, my idiot understanding of the log files shows nothing. All I can suggest is some good old-fashioned troubleshooting:

1. Try a different skin (you said elsewhere that you're not using Confluence and you have at least one script error)
2. Try without advancedsettings unless there's something critical in there
3. Try removing the library and using local media, see if that works better
4. Try playing/reading over SMB instead of NFS
5. Try resetting the configuration completely (the hard reset should have done that)
6. Try a re-install if all else fails

... recognising that a broken config, if it's that, may well survive a backup-restore cycle, so it may ultimately be necessary to bin that as part of diagnostics.
