Only lately the remote has been acting weird like this.

Basically I want to enable VOL hardware keys adjust volume, but DISABLE vibrate on keypresses.

-but it simply won't do it! Every time I switch one, the other is switching also. It's almost like the hitbox on the screen is all out of place, but its probably something simpler.

Can anyone advise?

I found out recently that on Android 4.4 switches don't work very well, so they will be changed to checkboxes in the next version.

Yes. I'm on 4.4.4 (CyanogenMod), I just checked.

Known problem then.

OK, maybe I could revert to an older version of the app.
