I recently got a 4k TV, and from what I've read using Kodi at 1080p and letting the TV upscale is the way to go, however Kodi always defaults to max resolution on every boot (3840x2160p@30) I changed it to 1920x1080p@60 and the setting is lost on a reboot.

Code:
Starting Kodi (17.0-ALPHA2 Git:2016-05-13-9c94cb9). Platform: Linux x86 64-bit
INFO: Output 'HDMI3' has 1 modes
INFO: ID:0x4b Name:3840x2160 Refresh:30.000000 Width:3840 Height:2160
Fixed it by editing xorg.conf - not had to do that for a while, I wrongly assumed that Kodi would force the resolution based on choice in the menu
