what is the best way to share a library?

I was reading about upnp, but how does that work?

Will only the library be shared, and actual content will be played and streamed from the server?

I could set up a small cheap system just to run kodi and share the library over upnp, but I don't want the actual content to stream though that device.

My media server has quad Intel nic running LACP, so I want the actual media to still stream straight from the server.
many folks are using emby with the kodi add-on

this is not free? do you need to pay for it? what is the difference between the free and premium?

Where are you trying to share the videos to? Sounds to me like you want to setup MySQL on the Quad Intel NIC. then install KODI on yoru clients to point to that central database.
wow, tried getting Emby setup and that thing is really mest up. video made it look so easy.

First it, its been since 10am in morning (and its 4pm) and its still "looking" at my media, half of it is not identified yet.

Then it combined US and UK shows together, so even though I have two separate folders for US and UK show it cataloged them together.

So, Being Human, Top Gear, Office, etc...instead of having separate entry for Top Gear UK and Top Gear USA, even though its in separate folder Emby didn't care and it dumped it together.

I was looking at the MySql, the only problem I see is that you are required to run the same vesrion of Kodi, I usually like to run Alpha version on one system to see what new stuff is on its way.
