Full Version: Customisation of XmediaBar

This is not really a support request but an effort on my part to understand how Kodi works.

The main menu appears to be based on the Sony XMediaBar which I assume comes from PlayStation hence XMBC?? (Please correct me if I have got this wrong.

Is it possible without detailed coding to customise this main menu bar e.g. add additional categories. So for example in addition to Movies , Music can I add another main menu heading Home Videos, or TV Shows (pre-recorded not live streams) or YouTube so that these options are quickly accessible rather than all subsets of Movies (as they are presumably classed as all video files or streams)? Can you for example add a second Movies heading and rename it to Home Videos or TV Box Sets etc. Whilst not as slick as Kodi this layout is sort of available in MyMovies for MCE which I am currently using.
Alternatively is there another skin or build that will provide that functionality or customisation.
Many thanks
Fozzie
Well, first it's XBMC which comes from XBox Media Center, due to that is what XBMC/Kodi was originally designed to run on, and nothing to do with Playstation.

Second, you can change skins by going to Settings/Appearance/Skin then Get More. As well you can install some other skins that may not be available that way (some of them being work in progress skins) from here: http://forum.kodi.tv/forumdisplay.php?fid=67

There are plenty of skins that allow for anything from minimal to extensive customization. You'll just need to try some and see what fits you best.
Thread moved to OS independent.

As noted Confluence and Estuary can't do such changes, but many other skins (including some mod variants of both the default ones) can do so. For example I use Amber on my Pi's, and have such menu items for my on-board stored movies separately from those on my network, plus another tab for radio streams. Have a play with the skins available from the official repo (and details in the skins section here) as @Tinwarble suggests.
Most other skins support custom home items. Aeon Nox, Amber, Transparency, Titian, and many others. However, if you really like the default look then check out the mods here: http://forum.kodi.tv/forumdisplay.php?fid=125 using the install from zip option (see add-ons (wiki)).

Many thanks Tinwarble. I thought it was a Xbox design but when I searched for it on the internet the results pointed to Sony introducing it as navigation on their Sony Bravia TVs so assumed it was also on Playstation. I stand corrected Blush

Thanks for the tips on Skins. I just need to find one that is customisable to what I need.
