In Settings > Library > Video you can set the default action to open Info rather than play the movie straight away. However, this does not apply to the homepage, the movie always play when selecting it rather than show info first, is this a bug?

I believe home screen widgets always default to play when selected directly with no way to change that behavior. You can however hit the "info" button while on a widget item and get a modified info screen.
