Why is my Tronsmart Vega/Kodi 15 not seeing an optical drive plugged into the USB port?

Plugging the same drive to my Mac adds a 'Play Disc' option in Kodi.

Android doesn't quite understand optical drives in the same way. It can still work via "files", but it won't trigger the play disc menu.

That's the thing.

Android does not even see the drive as 'files'.

Most Android boxes don't understand the DVD file system. The only way around that is to use another firmware with the file system added to the kernel, or use a Samsung USB DVD drive that has "media mode", which emulates a Fat32 drive.

I don't think Android supports usb optical drives. Not at all.

It can, but it's not for the faint of heart.
