How to get a fully working android os (Remix os) on the chromebox that runs great. It does work on a usb stick also but i wanted it on the internal ssd. I tried to install it directly to the chromebox ssd with the remix os installer and choosing install to harddrive with my chromebox ssd connected in an external enclosure to my pc but it wouldnt boot after. So here is a solution I have found that works.

It may require spending a few pounds on an external m2 ssd enclosure to enable you to connect it to a pc and get remix os directly on the chromebox ssd.

1) read the following thread to enable you to get the chromebox flashed with Chromebox kodi E-Z setup script by Matt Devo.

I personally installed Standalone option 6) Install/update custom coreboot firmware as I had no intention of using chrome os when I purchased the box.

2) When this is done as you have already had the back off the box to remove the Write protect screw remove the back of the box again to remove the chromebox ssd. The video shows a complete upgrade of ram and ssd just watch the part to remove the ssd.

3) When the ssd is out place it in the enclosure and connect to your pc and format the ssd to ntfs.

4) When it has formatted download the latest Remix os and universal usb installer (uui)

5) Extract the contents of the remix os to a folder on your desktop as we just need the Remix os image file.

6) start up universal usb installer and click the drop down box (step 1) Image

Then scroll all the way to the bottom and choose (Try unlisted Linux iso) Image

Then go to browse and choose the remix os image file that you extracted to a folder on your desktop. ImageImage

Tick the box that says (now showing all drives be careful) Image

Now in step 3 select your usb drive use the drop down box to choose the drive letter that has your ssd in its enclosure. Be sure to check my computer first to make sure you have the correct drive. Image

Now hit create and it will install Remix os to your chromebox ssd. Image

7) When finished remove the ssd from the enclosure and replace it in your chromebox and when you boot up the chromebox Remix os will load.

Increase storage

Regardless of the ssd size Remix os will only use 4gb for a fat 32 formatted ssd and 8gb for an ntfs formatted ssd.

1) If you have an ssd of 16 gb or more replace the ssd in the chromebox and boot and install till you get to the Remix os desktop screen then power off the box.

2) Remove the ssd once more from the chromebox and place in enclosure and connect to your pc

3) Then follow the link to the tutorial that will enable you to increase your storage.

I have a 64gb (ntfs) ssd installed that I increased from 8gb to 48gb and it runs fine.

I have installed kodi apk via the official website and it seems to run OK. Playstore apps work also. Quite impressed. Hope this has helped

Thanks
