Full Version: Intel NUC6i3SYH headless losing audio

Kodi works fine as long as everything is turned on. If I turn off the pioneer and projector overnight, and i turn on the next day, video works fine (at last, my last NUC would never allow this), but, audio is totally silent. Device manager shows the device is working. Using wasapi output device, hdmi. All intel drivers seem ot be current as checked by their download manager. Windows has no updates. Only happens after turning equipment off over night as far as I can tell. Receiver shows no audio signal of any type being received. Once audio is gone, switching inpits on receiver and going back does not help. Log shows no information about any problem. Will setup to capture a debug log overnight.

So, by no audio, I mean nothing from Kodi. No gui sounds even.

Not sure if it might be relevant, but also installed is playon. That product creates its own audio driver. Kodi is set for exclusive control over the hdmi output.

Undoubtedly related, quitting KODI and going to the sound control, panel and testing also yields no sound. This may indicate a Windows issue, or, may not. Only thing I can find that brings sound back is a reboot.

I'd be curious of anyone else with a similar NUC running headless with an A/V receiver and whether or not you have any issues.

Environment:
Bios 0054
Graphics driver 4501
Windows 10 pro anniversary , 16gb ram, 64 bit
Display hdmi Epson 6020ub via Pioneer Elite SC-55
I bet its just because your receiver is losing the handshake with the nuc. I do not have a nuc, but on my HTPC i have the same issue from time to time. The computer is also a server so its on most of the time, but sometimes when I turn on my Denon and projector i get no sounds as well. A simple restart and everythings working again. I would assume its just because of the handshake issue. You can try this. For me a simple restart is easy enough, but this may fix your issue. http://www.thehtpc.net/htpc-tips-and-twe...d-for-all/
I am pretty sure it is losing the handshake. The computer is always on though, it is not hibernating or sleeping. Nevertheless, I had never seen devcon and had been wondering if there was a way to reset it. So, was excited to obtain devcon (which the link no longer works in the article, one has to install the WDK).

I am hopeful this will work as I now tried to disable the Intel Display Audio sound device in device manager, and, enable it, and, it worked fine! So, I presume all that is needed is to batch script it. I will put it on my remote to execute when desired.

Thanks!
Do an edid override so it doesn't rely on handshaking.
Sounds even better, will try that. Thanks!
The EDID override did not work. In my case, what is dying turns out to be the audio endpoint. The EDID override while it does play things and otherwise function perfectly, did not keep sound going. It appears the devcon trick does work by restarting the endpoint in question.
How did you do the edid override? Did you do what's described in http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=251833
Yes, exactly that thread and it all worked. Just doesn't retain audio. Seems to timeout after 8 hours or so, have not determined the exact timing yet. Suspect it's a driver bug with Intel. Resetting the graphics controller does nothing of course, resetting the audio driver does nothing. The only thing that does anything is resetting the audio endpoint. Audio immediately comes back.
