Does anyone know how to play music or a movie on one kodi box and have the same music or movie playing on another Kodi box on the same network? I want to be able to play music downstairs and when i walk upstairs the same song is playing and pretty synced. also would be cool if i start a movie down stairs and want to finish it in bed. let me know if anyone has suggestions.

For music, use the squeezebox system. The server id free/open source and you can run players on a computer (incl android, rpi, PC etc) or proprietary logitech hardware.
For going room to room with a movie, use a mysql database for kodi. When you are finished in the lounge, top the movie. Go to bed and start the movie in the bedroom it will start where you left off.
will squeezebox work if i am playing from spotify/youtube/pandora
I have spotify and pandora on mine. I didn't know youtube had audio streaming.
The other option these days is chromecast audio.
