I have been trying to get Kodi to output 5.1 audio via optical SPDIF but I have not been able to get any DTS sound, only PCM stereo.

I have try to enabled all of the following

-Audio output device = Direct sound - SPDIF and WASAPI - SPDIF

-Allow Passthrough = enabled
-Passthrough output device = Direct sound: SPDIF and WASAPI: SPDIF
-DTS Capable = enabled

Despite doing all this I have only been able to get PCM stereo sound and DTS logo + 5.1 speaker icons does not appear on my AV receiver.

I have tested this movie with an external media player - potplayer and was able to output DTS 5.1 audio via passthrough SPDIF
and the DTS logo + 5.1 speaker icons appears on my AV receiver.

I am also still able to control the volume within Kodi, rather than by AV receiver only.

So how can I fix this problem?

Also why does there not appear any speaker configuration option - e.g 2, 5.1 etc.. when we choose Audio output device = Direct sound - SPDIF and WASAPI - SPDIF

Kodi version = tested on 17 beta 1 to beta 3

'Number of channels' appears immediately below 'Audio output device' in Estuary in Settings/System/Audio. It appears regardless of which level of expertise you select.

No
it does not appear for me..when my device is direct sound - SPDIF or direct sound - default, OR WASAPI

the only thing that appears under Audio output device is
-output configuration = Optimized, Fixed or Best Match

I am on Expert Level
Spdif is two pcm channels only. Inside that you can put 6 DTS or ac3 channels, as they are compressed.

What we really need is a debug log (wiki)

Not sure what is meant by that statement, but as I've said,

I was able to get 5.1 DTS audio using SPDIF optical out
when I used an external media player ie. potplayer..

I can confirm it was passthrough, because I can only change the volume on my AV receiver..
And DTS logo + 5.1 speakers logo was showing on the AV receiver.

I can tell that Kodi was not using passthrough, even though it was enabled is because I can change the volume within Kodi itself.
And there was no DTS logo, and it saids PCM + 2 speaker icons (L+R) on the AV reciever

It did take over the audio and prevented other media players from outputting sound though.

Not sure but I think it is something wrong with Kodi since there is no problem when using an external media player.

What is the purpose of having two settings that ask for audio devices?
Seems to have the same options.

-Audio Output Device
-Passthrough output device

Do we always select same exact devices for both settings?

Why do they ask for this in both settings?
and what happens if we both settings differently?
As I said, debug log (wiki). Also screenshots of your kodi audio settings please.
If you set them differently, then passthrough goes to one device and non passthrough goes to the other.

Does this mean....

If there is audio coming from a movie,
will it output to different devices?

So in effect I can have output audio to my headphone and to my AV receiver at the same time?

Also how come I can't set speaker configuration (as shown in screenshot) ie 2, 5.1 speakers?

I thought that someone that is a member for many years should have known more about forum rules and banned add-ons

Where in this thread did I ask support or discuss about any addons..

This about an audio issue...

If there is something wrong about any rules broken then please clarify why this topic has broken it
then I will removed any mention of addon in log etc..and repost the new log

As far as I was aware, I just provided the log as requested...
And followed the Kodi log guide

http://kodi.wiki/view/Log_file/Easy

If I was required to removed any info in the log that is not allowed (other than my own personal info), then I will remove it and repost a new log.

Just to answer: do what you want with your log AND with kodi

But do not shout at me if someone from the team ask you to reproduce your issue with a clean install without any banned add-ons

I didn't shout anything at you..
You are getting too dramatic..

I was just asking what I did wrong, which you didn't answer in your first post other than linking to forum rules and banned addons..

So as you can see it would be confusing for some ppl..

If the problem is that we can't have any mention about any banned addons in the logs
then just state that...

I was just following the request to provide a log and screenshots..
To simplify the matter Wink..... yes, the issue is that there are banned addons mentioned in your log. Normally, threads are being closed without a second thought because of that. To prevent this, remove your addons, create a new debug log and people will try to help.
