I discovered that editing and trying to browse a broken UPnP source, krashes kodi.
Tried 3 diffrent setups:
1. pi3 running krypton trying to connect to a a pi2 running jarvis shareing via UPnP, when pi2 was turned off I tried editing the source and clicked browse and Kodi krashed.
2. laptop running windows and kodi krypton, trying to edit the same dead source. Clicking browse crashed kodi.
3. Pi2 running jarvis, editing a dead UPnP source. Clicking browse just brings up a browser window.
