Hi all,

I currently dual boot windows and mint 18, Kodi 17 is flawless in windows, I get perfect playback and hardware decoding of HEVC with an RX460 grfx card.......so my issue in Linux isn't the end of the world but I did want to switch over permanently at some point.
I've now tried all versions of Kodi stable, beta and nightly and the program simply doesn't start with any of them, I've tried running from terminal but same problem, crash log below for anybody who might have a clue why!
For a little more info it worked on Ubuntu 16.10 albeit no smooth playback of HEVC which I'm guessing is more of a Linux problem.

GPU driver issue. Try a Milhouse le build. There is no new enough distribution for your hw yet.

Vdpau will do hevc 8 bit only though.

Ahh nice, I totally overlooked that thread, I'll take a look at the thread for a guide. Install looks complicated, I'll have a crack at it later.

I give up! so I tried to install a Millhouse build but the timing on my monitor goes tits up before I can even get to the install, unsupported timing. SO then I tried openelec, install went fine.......runs through startup says something like "Got to kodi UI [OK] but it doesn't, it stops at ethernet install it looks like, tried the USB I installed it on in an old laptop and it booted up fine!! I'll wait with the linux versions until it's more mature.

I'd try upgrading the kernel on mint(or better ubuntu) to >= 4.8.5 and mesa 13 from some ppa(e.g. padoka)

No dice, still crashes with segmentation fault, I'll just stick to windows for my Kodi needs I think before this drives me insane!

Update* it's working now, I purged anything to do with grfx and reinstalled mesa and kodi beta works, most of my files are all good apart from the few massive HEVC x265 files I have, not smooth on linux, fine on windows though *shrugs*

No support on linux. Vdpau has no 10 bit support yet. Vaapi only with ffmpeg 3.2 and not in Kodi. We miss the hw to implement it.
