Linux 16.04 / Latest install of Kodi with MythTV backend.

Kodi seems to freeze or hang quite regularly (and for no good reason). I've made sure Chrome is not also running, which seems to help.

My real problem is that, even after killing the process, it won't go away. I'm stuck with a frozen kodi screen that won't die until I reboot.

What is going on? How can I restart Kodi without rebooting the whole box?

thanks
Even though the process is gone, it's still reflecting on the screen as a frozen fullscreen App. BUT... if I right-click on the Kodi icon and "Open in Full Screen" it seems to restart again. I suspect this is more of a Ubuntu/Desktop issue than kodi.
Provide dmesg output via SSH after it froze and the Kodi.log

Screen froze at 20:03, after about 1.5 hours of inactivity. I didn't get to the logs till midnight.

There are hardware errors every 10 mins in the logs, but not at 20:03:

Never the less, remove the broken Disk and retry.
Have umounted and unplugged the USB backup disk. This has stopped the kernel errors coming through every 10mins.

I think these are false errors, and a kernel bug - see:

14:20: Restarted kodi (full screen hdmi) in debug mode with all logging switched on.

14:52 Started Kodi and disabled the MythTV plugin.
15:06 Freeze (just as a Skype notification popped up).

Disabled Skype. Didn't even realise it was running. Had to first get the notification icon back to the system tray using apt-get install sni-qt sni-qt:i386

15:31 Started Kodi (got warning about no PVR client enabled).
16:01 Still running...

Will leave it running and report back..
19:31 Still running. 4 hours.
19:31 ALT+TAB to desktop, starting Skype, click back onto Kodi. Instantly Kodi Freezes.

I'm using a Cideko air keyboard in addition to my IMON remote. Is the error connected with my ALT+TAB and window focus changes, or Skype itself?

19:34 Restarting Kodi to find out.... (Skype still running and now showing the systray icon).
20:18 Me tabbing around again and Skype messages. Kodi freezes

20:20 Restarting Kodi again.
20:25 Skype messages popup, no probs. Still running.

So I'm seriously confused. The only thing that's changed is that I've installed sni-qt .

I can still cause a freeze if I use ALT+TAB to get away from Kodi, then click back on it. (The logs for this are below). But why it was just freezing after periods of inactivity is not resolved.

Any ideas?
Unity desktop? Can you retry with e.g. fluxbox session?
wmctrl -m shows Compiz (it's the standard Ubuntu window manager when I log out - haven't changed from a fresh install of 16.04)

apt-get install fluxbox

rebooted and logged into fluxbox

No issues with ALT+TAB there, have re-enabled MythPVR client and plugged the disk back in.
This seems to be limited to Unity. Installed Gnome and don't get the freezing issue either after periods of inactivity or ALT+TAB use. Worth a bug report?
Try to upgrade your ivb intel drivers first, xserver-xorg-video-intel - yours is stone old.
