So I know that on the Nvidia shield which runs android tv to get Kodi it's as easy as downloading the app and it works just as good as it does on my PC.

My parents are looking to get a new Sony 4K tv and I noticed that it has android tv. Are they able to download Kodi onto the tv so that they could also watch movies which I have on a computer that's is sharing my movies and tv shows?
Yes. There are a couple of active threads regarding Sony and Philips Android TV.
Thanks sorry for making yet another thread.
Yes, Kodi works fine on those with minor caveats.
There were some issues with 5.1 AC3 sound over ARC and transcoding.
If only Stereo is used there is no issues at all, everything works out of the box with v17 beta or SPMC.
On 2015/2016 quadcore models, you will get absolutely smooth experience.

Also at least Philips (I bet Sony has it too, they are quite similar) has pretty decent Built-in player/media browser (If DLNA is used, shares are not supported).

Some threads about those TV`s and issues encountered with latest v17 Beta (nothing major).

Man you're starting to make me feel a little jealous of my parents tv. I put off getting a new tv and decided to just get the Nvidia shield tv. Except for the fact that my shield can play all my games on my computer, the Sony tv they are looking at seems to be a great all in one tv.
