I have an android box with s905 amlogic processor. I've been running Kodi for a while now and recently it has begun cutting out in the middle of shows and movies playing off my home group storage every 6-10min. It exits back out to the previous screen and allows me to resume where it left off. I've tried Kodi 16.0, 16.1, 17.0 beta, even tried spmc, and they all have the same issue. I then put I new Rom on the android box and I still have the same issue. I've tried factory resets on the box and the issue still persists. I can run kodi on other boxes from the same sources without the issues so it isn't the network storage.
What do you recommend next to troubleshoot?
Providing a link to your http://kodi.wiki/view/Debug_log would be useful.
Are you serving SMB over Windows or Mac?
I'm having the same issue on an NVidia Shield TV.

Only once in a program though. Sometimes at 20+ minutes, sometimes at 30+.

Either way as stated above by Dangelus, both of you should share a log file so we don't need to play the 20 questions game.
Just in case either of the folks with problems are serving their files from Windows (implied by SMB in subject), check this out: http://kodi.wiki/view/SMB/Windows#Timeout

Never had a problem since making those changes on the server!

BUT you really do need to post your logs as requested!

I apologize for not posting a log on the original thread, but here it is http://paste.ubuntu.com/23551335/

I am serving the SMB from my DD-WRT router. I have the drive plugged in to the router and shared out to the network through the NAS feature in DD-WRT firmware. I can play things fine streaming to my laptop and I can play netflix fine on the android box, but when I try to pull from the SMB drive, I get the playback errors. I have tried using "anonymous" access to the drive as well as specific user/pass and both had the same results.
Have you tried connecting to your SMB shares via the direct IP address option in Kodi?
