I'm new to Kodi, and couldn't find a post that addressed the issue I'm having so I apologize in advance if there is something out there that I just couldn't find.

I installed Kodi on my laptop, and it's working fine. I have two movies that I've copied as MP4 and on my laptop, both of them play just fine in Kodi. I'm in the process of setting up a media server, and I got Kodi installed on it. I plugged in the drive with the two movies on it, and pulled them up in Kodi. The movie shows it's playing, but all I get is a black screen, no actual video. If I pull up the movie just in Windows (Windows 10) on the default player, it plays just fine.

Any ideas on why it plays on the default Windows player, but not within Kodi?

Thanks in advance for any help!
With Kodi launched go into settings>video>acceleration>render method 'software' might do something for you. It's just a guess as version of Kodi, your hardware and display is not in your post, and that's why we like a proper debug log (wiki) posted to a public pastebin and that URL linked back to this thread. You also mentioned a laptop (windows?) and a media server (android?), usually a black screen indicates some shortcoming in your graphics dept but the log would have good hints.
I've seen this response a number of times and I have a problem utilizing it. When I hit settings>video> "acelleration" is nowhere to be found. My road comes to an abrupt end. Am I doing something wrong?
