This looks great! Any idea when there will be a public test?
Some more context stuff. Notice how the parallax scroll keeps things pretty.

To those asking about release estimates, etc, this thing's not going to be ready for months.

Had to Google parallax scrolling to understand what that means. Here's a link to some websites that use parallax scrolling so you can get an idea of the effect which is hard to get a sense of in DJH's images.

and a link to a demo of parallax scrolling

Certainly the effect is easier on the eye than standard scrolling, which makes it ideal for those of us with large video libraries.
This looks awesome, can't wait to try it!

One quick question... How have you made the list alternate between the two shades of grey? I haven't been keeping up with recent skin engine updates and last time I checked I didn't think something like that was possible.
Finally a super clean skin to compete with @jurialmunkey super clean skins Eminence and Arctic Zephyr
So the parallax effect will push the artwork slitghly to make space for the options bar, instead of just going over it? Sounds pretty cool if that's the case.

Any chance of you throwing together a demo video, once you have some stable code? I would love to see how the parallax scrolling looks in Kodi.

Keep up the great work!
Added a few cosmetic touches while setting up the poster/keyart toggle. The whole skin is driven by multiimages at the moment, for both posters and keyart, which has the advantage of Kodi picking up any artwork you chuck in the folders at any time, regardless of filename or the state of your database. Also means you can have multiple posters, obv.

Amazing work!
DJH

The numbers in the top right corner of the screenshots - are they representing the time of day?
DJH,

Love your work (deadendthrills also). I am really looking forward to watching how this comes together.

One thing is really nagging me though.. I'm not sure on that choice of body typeface. The contrast in style against the titles is right, but... there's just something a bit off with it.

Don't get me wrong, it's a well judged choice by someone who clearly knows what they're doing! However, knowing how hard it can be to swap out a typeface later on in the development process, i'm wondering whether it might be worth running through a few alternative options at this early stage?

Cheers, and great to see you back!
Is this a viewtype or the only one?
Thanks for all the interest and feedback. Please don't be offended, though, when I say that I'll be ignoring pretty much all feature requests. That stuff's best left to modders once the thing is actually out. Pandering to a community wishlist would only make the skin more generic, and there are plenty of all-singing, all-dancing alternatives out there. What I'm trying to do with this is make an alternative to the usual kitchen sink style of UI - a very streamlined and personal set of features which, as I said earlier, won't be for everyone.

The list view is indeed the only one for movies. I find it the most comfortable and intuitive way to browse, and it means Aeon can exclusively display 1080p posters and keyart 1:1 at all times. I'm actually so keen to avoid Kodi's image resizing algorithms that I'm probably going to bin the album cover art from the home page, as there doesn't seem to be any way to improve the horrendous scaling quality.

Aeon's going to be very simple in terms of metadata, with the important caveat that it's a skin for ppl who are very pedantic and hands-on when it comes to which art they're using. No banners, then, no clear art, and no 16:9 fanart beyond whatever folders you assign to the home page. It will happily fall back to regular posters for movies and regular fanart for TV shows, but prefers a system of having each movie in its own folder, with 'posters' and 'keyart' subfolders. This will no doubt piss off people who expect the skin to obey whatever consensus system they happen to be using, but them's the breaks. I greatly prefer using multiimages and folders because it's such a simple process: you drop an image in, it shows up; drop ten images in, they show up; take an image out, it goes away.

Only thing to add for now is that the backend side of Aeon will not be as minimalistic as the frontend. If the frontend is a case of form over function then the opposite is true of the settings 'area', which'll be a bit busier in terms of buttons, panels, etc. It'll feel like quite a different environment and will probably take a lot of time and planning.

I love this. You're doing exactly what I'd do (if I had the skinning knowledge lol)
Finally, someone taking the time to consider the user experience, streamlining all the unnecessary complexities that kodi has adopted over the years.

It seems all the focus these days is on clunky widgets and gimmicks that will go out of date quicker than the milk in my fridge. Kodi doesn't just need a new UI (Estuary) it needs to be cut back to the core and designed for the user in mind. This forum is full of people asking questions on how to do very basic simple things kodi has to offer, but the way kodi is presented to the user i can see how it would be difficult for people to navigate their way around.

Good luck and can't wait to try it.
I can't wait to see it! Looks great. Keep up the good work and work as you like :-) make this skin look as you like and so what you need to fit your needs :-)
