Kodi Community Forum

Hi Everyone,

I've been using an Android box with 5.1.1 on it for about a year without issue, currently has Kodi v16.1. Everything works until my external hard drive stops spinning (sleep mode / power save mode) from being idle.

I had been using a 2TB portable drive and it never seemed to spin down but I upgraded to a 3TB 3 1/2 inch drive and it seems to spin down after 2min. I have a bunch of movies and tv shows on it and the only way to get the drive/content to show in Kodi again is to reboot the Android box.

Anyone know of a way to keep the external hard drive from sleeping? An Android app or a Kodi addon maybe? I've searched for both without luck.

Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

I ended up finding a solution, dodgy but it works. I use the Backup addon with a destination of the external hard drive, source of config files only, silent mode enabled and set to run every 10min via the advanced cron scheduler.
