What is seen is just the global resolution in action, I guess
I'm not an expert and I do not know what exactly happens.

But if i set Shield al 2160p 60Hz and SPMC at 1080p 30Hz i get auto resolution switching and auto framerate switching (at 1080p 30Hz) when i start SPMC.
the videos from SPMC are played at 1080p with the appropriate framerate (and 1080p to 4K upscaling is by TV).
If i stop SPMC, the resolution and framerate come back to the default 2160p 60Hz.

I can post some images if they can be useful. ...... my english is not very good.
NB:
I can set SPMC at 1080p only if i set the shield at 10 or 12bit or if i use rec.2020 colorspace.
If i set the shield at 8 bit or rec.709 colorspace (example 2160p 60Hz 4.2.0 8 bit rec.709) i can set SPMC GUI only at 2160p
 If this means you are playing Rec 709 (Rec 1886) 1080p content at Rec2020 on a display capable of displaying Rec 2020 you may well be watching stuff with a very distorted colour gamut.
I've noticed something today.
Playing 4k Movies on Kodi makes the colours washed out. Playing a 1080p movie and the colours look good.
Playing 4k Movies on SPMC and they look fine.

What's going on?
@noggin As you may know, setting the shield at 1080p rec2020 12bits is the only way currently to get the full range of resolution/refresh rates in kodi. All other settings only give you a subset. Surely a shield bug of some kind.

99.99% of my files are rec709, but I never noticed gamut issues, so I assume this conversion is done properly by shield, but it's only empiric Wink

 So the best way to set the shield is 1080p 60Hz 4.2.0 12bit rec.2020 (99.99% of my files are rec709 too)?
And in this way i must delete/modify this part advancedsettings.xml code:?

<advancedsettings>
   <fanartres>2160</fanartres>
   <imageres>2160</imageres>
   <imagescalingalgorithm>lanczos</imagescalingalgorithm>
  <video>
    <enablehighqualityhwscalers>true</enablehighqualityhwscalers>
  </video>
</advancedsettings>

Shield does have issues with BT.709 to BT.2020 conversion, but it ends up being close to the original BT.709 except for 100% primary & secondary saturation. Can't say how perceivable this error is with normal video content.

 So the more saturated colours are likely to be more off than less saturated colours - and how 'off' depends how wider gamut your Rec 2020 display can actually deliver ?

Movies may well look fine, but saturated live TV (football on grass, entertainment shows with very bright saturated lighting) may look a bit more off?

But the reality is that the ShieldTV does a 'probably not too bad' 709 to 2020 conversion if you run permanently in 2020 mode?

Exactly!

Last year, I had tested this on my Samsung JS8500 TV: https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic...9/#5182799
As you can see from the CIE chart, it's not all that bad!

That's really interesting. So reality is that watching 709 content on a Shield TV in 2020 mode may already have some nVidia-specific conversion even though it hasn't "officially" arrived in Android TV as standard ?

Is this to do with the colour space issue being discussed here?

The conversion would be a workaround for the real problem, which is that the Shield does not change between Rec 709 and 2020 modes depending on the source. A perfect solution would be for NVIDIA to implement this when Oreo releases and do it at an OS level. This way, the 709 and 2020 option should disappear and even the menu (launcher) wouldn't look washed out.
Has anyone here tried the Oreo version available here?

https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic...-download/

Does it have the switching option we require?

Potentially - the OP doesn't say whether the 4K content is HDR - but I'm guessing it is, though they don't say what their display is capable of and how their Kodi/SPMC and Nvidia Shield TV are configured, so it's really difficult to tell anything...
Just got the Nvidia Shield TV, everything seams to working when i play HDR content i am not getting the HDR notification on my TV, is there a quick way for fixing this?

Using Kodi Leia Nightly Latest Build.
Try set color to BT.2020 but, for me HDR is till buged at this player. We must wait at Oreo android, who will fix it.
Hi all, so if I want to use the shield for pure 4K hdr content from netflix and Amazon with a 4k hdr tv what are the best settings to use?

Seems like it's still alot of messing around to get kodi to work right for the 4k hdr content so will use another box for that until thinfs are fixed I guess...
