Hello, first post here,

What are the steps to upgrading to Krypton on Kodibuntu, I'm currently on Jarvis 16.10
I tried the steps shown in the below link, but it won't upgrade to Krypton

I don't think the ppa has built 17 yet.

As nickr said - and the release announcement - "Kodi 17 downloads will be available in our Ubuntu PPA soon, so stay tuned for updates!".

Moving to Linux for tidiness.

I'm not sure where to look for the announcement, is it released yet?

It is released for Ubuntu 16.04 from trusty upwards:

Make sure you have the right thing in your sources.list

you went a bit technical on me, im a noob Tongue

I think kodibuntu was based on Ubuntu14.04

Therefore you can try the following commands:

sudo apt-get install software-properties-common
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:team-xbmc/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade

Just tried those commands in sequence, everything went fine, but not I cannot open kodi,
Whenever I try to log in it restarts and brings me back to the log in screen

So post a log.

after turning off the whole system and booting again, it just showed a black screen as in Kodibuntu boot was currupt,
so I formatted the SD card and installed Kodibuntu again and tried the commands again, and it worked like charm.

I'm also new to Linux and followed what tavoc suggested and I got the below error log being generated. I still cannot open Kodi Can you please see whats causing this issue:

I dont know what happend there.
You could try to upgrade your Kodibuntu (ubuntu 14.04) to Ubuntu 16.04 with:

sudo apt-get install update-manager-core
sudo do-release-upgrade

make sure you have a backup

Looks like the corrupt addons27.db problem. Delete that file and start Kodi again.
