Hello!

As we already discussed in the Atmos thread (http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=...pid2534005) I'm now finally getting a clean Atmos sound without interruptions (I had them in both versions - 15 and 16).
But the picture movement is disturbing. Feels like it's dropping frames when "Sync playback to display" is disabled. Which has to be in order to get the passthrough.
I also get a crash notice when closing the Krypton.

Mind that Kodi15 offers a smooth movement even with the "Sync playback to display" disabled.

My GPU is GTX560 with a fresh driver - updated today. OS:Win7Pro

Is there any solution?

Thank you.

And there it is.. Your old by computer standards 2010 gfx card might have new software, but it just might be just placebo software. Hit the keybaord 'o' and check for bottle necks and perhaps run a GPU monitor in the background. See if a 720x480 res file will play without hiccups.
Hi,

Thank you.
I checked the DVD resolution - still hickups.
Here is what happend when I pressed 'O'.

Let's have a proper debug log and see if we can squeeze this hardware into the present day.
Okay, I will prepare the log.
If I have to replace my GPU - so be it. But I had similar issues back in 2013 when Nvidia suggested old drivers to me. That's when I discovered "adjust display refresh rate" and the hickups were gone.
Interestingly, if I disable the "adjust display refresh rate" in Kodi 15, the movement is still fine. So my old HW works after all.
The big question is why doesn't it work with Kodi16/17 and why the audio (atmos passthrough) is working better in Kodi17?
There was a lot of work in the audio section in the last iterations of Kodi, developers are trying to get the latest into the code. Re previously 15 was using DirectX 9 while 16+ uses the Directx11, see if using software rendering works. Try playing problem files with VLC, Kodi uses the same routines (slightly behind though) if you still have issues, then it's hardware time. But if you get smooth play, next would be to try a stripped portable Kodi and see if it's smooth once you set up software rendering.
Here is the log from Kodi (16.1 Git:20160424-c327c53). Here too atmos sound has dropouts so if 16+ and 17 uses Directx11 something else must be the problem.

Hickups still present (Kodi 17 acts the same with Sync playback to display set to off.
Log created with following settings:
Adjust display refresh rate: always on
Sync playback to display: on

Disabling Hardware acceleration in 16.1 helps. The framerate is now higher: 24.6-25,4 FPS.

VLC 2.1.3 Rincewind also working good - no hickups.
Well, tested again on Kodi 17.1 RC. Disabling HW acceleration does not help there either so back to square 1.
Kodi 17 cannot play smooth video with my GPU no matter what settings I choose. Every Kodi version is working differently. Sad
Does my problems have anything to do with framerate or refresh rate? Since the movement is fine via DVI and the dropouts are present via HDMI only, I saw the refresh rate changed from 60 to 30 when HDMI is set to default.

I got the idea here:

PS: where do I get a stripped portable version of Krypton?
PS2: crashing when exit obviously fixed in the 17.1 RC version.
Yes that was going to be my next suggestion after toggling off the sync playback to display. Any of the Kodi installs can be use as http://kodi.wiki/view/Windows_FAQ#Portable , point at a different part of your computer or a USB device, don't run the program after the install, you need to create a shortcut link icon of the executable, and change in properties of that icon... but use the path you've chosen.
e.g.
the target->C:\Kodi-Krypton\Kodi\kodi.exe -p
start in---->C:\Kodi-Krypton\Kodi

click to run it, will not interfere with your old install.
Holy cow!
I think I have found the solution.
I set the "fullscreen window" to ON. And the picture is now smooth.
Does this make any sense to you?
Altough the movement is now much better I'm still getting something that looks like slow motion movement. This happens very rare, let's say 10 times per hour and it lasts few seconds. Doesn't happen it the same scenes so it's random. Is there any setting that would make this go away too?
Sounds like the video is being held back to match the audio, usually it's the other way round. It would probably be an audio setting, and audio equipment is so diverse, what I have to say is not going to mean much. Check these wiki's Audio troubleshooting (wiki) and Audio quickstart guide (wiki) and Features and supported formats (wiki) If you can find an external player that handles the file better, then perhaps playercorefactory might give a bit more time before you dump the set-up.
Okay, thanks for the links, I have all those settings set right on - except I always kept resample quality to high.
All this did work flawlessly in earlier versions of Kodi. (I don't know if this helped but "Sync playback to display" was enabled).
Did some more testing and it seems that "Sync playback to display" sethttp://kodi.tv/download/ to off is causing slow motion movement in both versions,15 and 17.
But in 17 one have to disable it in order to get the audio passthrough. That is a shame. Is there really no workaround?
