Full Version: Windows 8.1 Error After Installing Kodi 17.1

I have been a Kodi user for some time now. I have been running Kodi 16 Jarvis.

I have tried the previous installation of Krypton (Kodi 17.0) as well as the newest version (Kodi 17.1) and i receive the same error message:

kodi.exe - System Error
The program can't start because api-ms-win-crt-locale-l1-1-0.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.

Which i have several times and still gives the same error message. Kodi Jarvis runs smooth a silk without any problems, but I received a message on it the other day saying some programs would start not working correctly soon. I have tried this installation ever since a stable build was released for Krypton and still the same thing. I have updated Windows as much as I possibly can with everything i can possibly update. Thanks for any help because i have searched for this error and do not seem to see any other threads with this problem.

I am running Windows 8.1
64-bit Operating System x64
That problem typically means that the Microsoft-supplied VC++ 2015 (x86) is not properly installed on your system (Kodi 16 uses older version). Searching turns up this from ms:

The 2015 VC Redist installs and has dependencies on the Update for Universal C Runtime in Windows
(https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2999226)

To install this update, you must have April 2014 update rollup for Windows RT 8.1, Windows 8.1, and Windows Server 2012 R2 (2919355) installed in Windows 8.1 or Windows Server 2012 R2. (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2919355)

So I would start by installing those 2 KB updates.

Note that even though your OS is 64 bit, you need the 32-bit version (x86) of the VC runtime for Kodi 17. (MS provides both x86 and x64 versions of the runtime, you can install both if you want.)

I have the same problem. I am also running Windows 8.1. 64 bit.
Try here https://www.microsoft.com/en-au/download...x?id=48145

Select the correct version for your operating system, download and install.
I had the same problem. Not fixed yet.

Kodi Krypton installed perfectly first time on my Win 7 laptop.

On my Win 8.1 laptop (a "gift" from a family member) I am wasting my time with Win Updates (nearly a gig) AGAIN. God, I hate Microsoft. When I think of what must be the months, possibly years, of my life they have WASTED . . . ever since Windows 3, DOS, MSDOS et al.

Arrogant little adolescents, all of 'em.

Thanks to everyone here, I hope this works for me.

They have given us into the hands of the new unhappy lords,
Lords without anger nor honour, who dare not carry their swords.
They fight by shuffling papers; they have bright dead alien eyes;
They look at our labour and laughter as a tired man looks at flies.
And the load of their loveless pity is worse than the ancient wrongs,
Their doors are shut in the evening; and they know no songs.

Thanks Scott967, I had a successful 17.4 running on my computer but I had to reinstall WIN 8.1 on a new SSD. I couldn't get Kodi to work and I had that message. I had hours of fun trying to find the solution. I could get Jarvis running but not Krypton. I tried your solution with the 2 updates and everything is solved. thanks again.
Dan

Hi,
I have Win 7 32 bit SP1 and when trying to install kodi 17.4, i encounter the same error.
Which updates should I install?

Thanks in advance for your guidance!
I think this one would do for Win7: Visual C++
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download...x?id=49984

See update requirements on that page two other updates are prerequisites

Good luck

I'm having the same problem with the error message that the specific dll file is missing. I wanted to try your method to install the Update for Universal C Runtime in Windows but the files aren't available anymore to download or supported?
