I upgraded on an existing device and also installed fresh on a new device.
the fresh install played files significantly faster. wondering why? are there any settings to check on the upgraded unit or should I just do a fresh install on that one?

I always do a fresh, clean install when moving from new full versions, so from 16 to 17, 17 to 18. When its just a internal version update, like 17.0 to 17.1, I do not do a fresh install. This is just my preference. As far as the speed of files, lots of things to consider... device hardware, network config, source of the files, type of files, etc...
