Hey all,

I've been on this for a few hours now... I've followed the other threads that mention a Sony firmware issue causing Kodi to have DTS passthrough problems.. however, I think that is different than what I am experiencing.

I did the recommended settings as follows:

Sync with TV: On
Passthrough: On
AC3 capable receiver: On
AC3 transcoding: On

The rest of the passthrough options are off.

With the above settings, I get no sound. The receiver shows that it is getting Stereo PCM Digital audio, but no sound.

When I turn passthrough off, I get sound. Receiver shows it as stereo PCM Digital audio. No surround.

I'm using optical audio (SPDIF) to go from the 75X900E to my Denon AVR-E300

I've tried sync with display off, same issue.

I've tried messing with the TV settings -> sounds -> Digital Audio Out
Currently it is Auto1. I've tried PCM Only, same issue.

In action menu -> sound adjustments. Everything is on standard, I changed Dolby Digital Plus output to Dolby Digital (from Dolby Digital Plus) but same issue with both.

It seems that every time I can get it to actually pass something through, there is no sound, and it still says PCM on the receiver. Any ideas?

Thanks for all the help

EDIT:

Log:log

I didn't do the full restart after enabling debug logging, let me know if that will help.

In the log, i played the file with passthrough enabled, AC3 enabled and AC3 transcode enabled. No sound.

I also found this in the log regarding the file I'm playing:

In general, audio passthrough doesn't work on Sonys with Kodi 17. What audio format are you trying to play? What version of Android?

With transcode AC3 on, I've tried:

Stereo (MP3, AAC, Dolby) Works, receiver shows stereo PCM
5.1 (AAC, AC3, DTS, Dolby) No sound. I haven't found any non-stereo video that has sound with passthrough enabled.

I'm on Android 7.0

Thanks
Ok, you're trying to play 640k ac3. That doesn't work, at least not with Android 6. I don't know about 7, haven't installed it on my Sony yet. Transcoding does work for me, I believe because it uses a lower bitrate (but no way to force ac3 to ac3 transcoding).

I thought enabling AC3 transcoding was supposed to take care of the 640k?

From Android - Passthrough Changes with v17 thread:
Quote:PCM speakers: 2.0
Enable AC3
Enable AC3-Transcoding
and (!) Enable Sync Playback to Display. This is need to force transcoding even of native AC3 Input as that might be 640 kbit/s and the FW cannot use it.

Thanks again

EDIT: Maybe enable sync playback to display is supposed to take care of the 640k? It is enabled for me, still no sound.
Oh, I missed that. You're right, sync with display should force transcoding. Let me test that...yes, it works on my 800D running Android 6. With display sync off, I get no sound.

You follow the settings given in the passthrough changes thread but did you think to download one of the shitty build linked in this same thread?

I might be wrong but I think that standard kodi 17.3 transcode to 640kbps AC3 that is not supported by your Sony TV

Try giving the optical output 5.1 with the shity version of Kodi.. http://mirrors.kodi.tv/test-builds/android/arm/
Switch off transcoding, only connect ac3 compatible and dts compatible
http://mirrors.kodi.tv/test-builds/andro...bi-v7a.apk
Thanks all, I ended up installing the shitty build from 5/25, and all works now... However I now hear a low hum when nothing is playing. Oh well...
With your low audio hum can you have a fiddle with the following settings...

Settings>System Settings>Audio.

There are two settings that might fix that...

1. Keep Audio Device Alive and
2. Send low volume noise

It might fix.

In general if you want passthrough AUDIO, you should NEVER enable "Sync Playback to Display" - never. Also as your device supports Android 7 as you say. AC3, DTS will work via IEC method - so absolutely no need for any shitty build.

The "Sync Playback" workaround was mentioned for the old, broken, kaputt Sony / Philips devices to get the passthrough bitrate down to 384 by a forced transcoding.

So please - post your Debug Log with a plain kodi 17.3

Sync Playback to Display: Off
Adjust Refreshrate to match video: Off

Speakers: 2.0 (because of ARC)
Enable Passthrough: On
DTS: On
AC3: On
Dolby Transcode: On
DTS-HD: Off (b/c ARC)
True-HD: Off (b/c ARC)

what happens if you play DTS?

Not funny - they broke IEC passthrough in Android N or don't implement it properly. And now even AC3 will stop working on those devices ... Can you return the TV?
In approximately 60 minutes a build will appear her: http://mirrors.kodi.tv/test-builds/android/arm/

it has sonyraw in its filename, could you please retest, same settings as before please. What works and what not?

This one: http://mirrors.kodi.tv/test-builds/andro...bi-v7a.apk (give it some mins to let the mirror sync, please).

I was afraid this would happen.

A Philips supporter claimed that while those features (raw DTS, IEC) are added on an API level, a driver does not necessarily have to implement it. Can this somehow be determined? Still lame that they can't properly support something that has been a standard for almost 2 decades.
