Light IMDb Ratings Update 3.5.1 / 4.0.1
Light IMDb Ratings Update runs as a Kodi service to update the ratings, votes and Top 250 for movies as well as the ratings and votes for TV shows (including episodes) by scraping the data from the IMDb site. The update can be run manually or scheduled once a week and it will run as soon as possible after a scheduled start is missed. Light IMDb Ratings Update is compatible with Kodi 17/18 and runs on every platform.

Developed by axlt2002.

Features
Light IMDBb Ratings Update has a really basic behaviour and does not rely on any local database or external module such as PHP. What it does is just to scan your Kodi library and send a request to the IMDb site to retrieve the rating and number of votes for the movies, TV shows and episodes that have a valid IMDb ID. The main features of Light IMDb Ratings Update are:

  • Update ratings, votes and Top 250 for movies
  • Update ratings and votes for TV shows and episodes
  • Set IMDb rating as default rating
  • Automatic retrieve of IMDb IDs for TV shows from The Movie Database and TheTVDB.com
  • Manual edit of IMDb ID, TMDB ID and TVDB ID
  • Scheduled ratings update once a week (day and time)
  • Manual ratings update

The scheduled update as well as the manual update launched from the Home menu (under Add-on sub-menu) update the movies and/or TV shows libraries with the current ratings, number of votes and Top 250 available on the IMDb site (please note that Kodi supports the Top 250 only for movies). In order to have IMDb ratings showed in the skin, please enable "Set IMDb ratings as default" in the add-on settings.
Besides the libraries update, it is also possible to update a single movie, TV show, season or episode by launching the manual update from the related context menu. Since IMDb site doesn't provide ratings for TV show seasons, the manual update of a season updates ratings and votes of all its episodes. Through the context menu it is also possible to edit the IMDb ID, the TMDB ID and the TVDB ID.

Installation
Light IMDb Ratings Update can be downloaded from the following link: Light IMDb Ratings Update 3.5.1 or Light IMDb Ratings Update 4.0.1.

NOTE: Kodi 17.x has a persistent bug related to the installation of service add-ons; after the add-on has been installed, the service is launched two times. In the context of Light IMDb Ratigns Update, this may have some implications if an update is configured or launched just after its installation. To avoid this, just exit and start Kodi again. The bug has been fixed in Kodi 18.

Reporting
Bug report: In case Kodi shows a Light IMDb Ratings Update error, please report it in this thread. In order to facilitate the debug, please follow these steps:

Update issue: In case of a movie/TV show/episode update issue (e.g. the ratings are not correctly updated), please report it in this thread and post on Pastebin the update.log file you can find under the userdata folder.

Hi axlt2002,

do you see any chance that your addon would work on android in the future? That would be awesome because there are no working addons at the moment for android (afaik). The last working addon was:

Addon - IMDB Update

It scrapes the ratings from OMDb API, but unfortunatly the access is not for free anymore...

Thank you in advance

Hi cgi2011,

Right now I do not have plans to extend the add-on to make it work on other OS, but I could give it a try in case the feedbacks for the actual release will be positive.

Have a great day!

Hi Mario S.,

I think that the main bottleneck to have the add-on working on other platforms/OS is to find a working version of the PHP libraries. I will investigate it and, in case, I will ask your help for the testing (being myself just a Windows user).

Ciao!
id really love to install on my android Kodi device.. hope so

Thank you for looking at it
Testing is no problem for me Wink

LOG
Interesting, thanks. Doesn't seem to be a way to update votes but not ratings, though. I've been using the ratings field for several years to track my own ratings since until recently Kodi didn't have a user rating field, so I'm not really keen on overwriting all my ratings with IMDB ratings.

You could do an export and replace the "<rating>" and "</rating>" tags (by simply replacing the word "rating" with "userrating"). You could even do this with notepad++. And after replacing import the library again. After that I recommend the Trakt addon, so your own ratings can be synchronized to Trakt.

Hi guys,

In general, I do not see the reason why update the number of votes and not the ratings (especially if the rating is the user one). Anyway, I completely support the solution proposed by Bloksel.

Have a nice day!

Hi blackreign66,

Can you please provide more information about when this error happens? The add-on gave the error at the first run or you have tried to execute it more than once? If you run Kodi again, does the error re-happen or not? More information you provide, better I can try to understand the issue...this never happened in my testings before the release of the add-on.

In addition to that, please enable the debug logging in Kodi (1.1 GUI settings).

Thanks in advance!

Hi and thanks for your response. Ok the problem starts soon after I attempt to install addon from zip. I immediately get an error saying "Light IMDB update error" after which the Run tab is greyed out but I can configure addon. So I don't believe it is actually installing because of the error. I enabled debug log and attached LOG
