Full Version: Nvidia Shield TV - System Screensaver?

When I used SPMC, I had the ability to set "System" as the screensaver. This would allow me to have the daydream app on the Shield activate after some inactivity. With the official Kodi 17.3 build, I don't have an option to set "system" as the screensaver. Does anyone know how to accomplish this?
As far as I'm aware that is a feature of SPMC that did not make it into Kodi.
Could be a Skin option as well. As I am using Aeon MQ7 on a Nvidia Shield TV. Once the system is idle for a bit (I believe 5 minutes), the Nvidia Shield TV screensaver comes up (with lots of beautiful pictures).
Where should I request that it gets added in?

Also missing the suggestions on the Android menu for Kodi that SPMC has.
Use the default screensaver and it will use daydream.

I think the default screensaver is "None". Is that what I should set it to?

Yep! That'll make the shield screensaver kick in after whatever amount of time you have it set to.
On my installation (minix u9) daydream kicks in only when I set the Kodi screensaver to Dim.
Try it if the above fails. It should work.
Look into the Android FAQ, fig 3.11 (http://kodi.wiki/view/Logcat#logcat). If you want the Android screensaver (daydream) to step in you will have to activate "Dim" or "Black" as screensavers in Kodi. Any other screensaver or deactivating the screensaver prevents daydream from becoming active if kodi is running in foreground.

I have "Dim" activated and set to "4 minutes". And I have daydream set to "video off" (which results in shield box going into sleep mode) and starting after "5 minutes". That leads to Screen dimming after 4 minutes and the boxes going into sleep mode after another minute of inactivity.

Btw: I am running the app "Tasker" to send http-commands to my homecontrol from the Shield TV Box. When the video screen gets deactivated (which happens when daydream kicks in, see above), it turns the power switch for my TV and Amp off. When the screen is turned on again (which happens, when I press any key on the remote) Tasker sends the signal to activate the power switch for my TV and Amp again. That works much better than CEC and spares power (TV and Amp are totally off).
Thanks for the info guys. I'll set it to Dim and try it out.
I PR'ed the "system" screensaver at one point, to make it clear and avoid the "dim" hack (and also to, well, not have Kodi dimming before entering daydream) but it was rejected.
Hi Koying,

do you know a way to manualy trigger standby mode on NVidia Shield TV box from within Kodi? Or maybe a way to manually initiate the daydream-screensaver (maybe start as an Android App?) which can also be used to trigger standby mode (when you select "video off" as daydream screensaver)? Currently I always have to wait for 5 minutes until the daydream screensaver jumps in. video goes off and thereby NVidia Shield TV box goes to sleep (and Tasker-App causes my homeautomation to turn off the power-switch of my TV and AMP).
