It seems that new HDHomeRun app in Kodi does not support older devices (like HDHR3-US). And Kodi team have also cut previously supported HDHomeRun protocol in favor of new HDHomeRun app.

Since I still have HDHR3-US and do not really want to throw away another $100 for replacing otherwise working system.
What can I do to make it work with Kodi? Is there some kind of work around?

Set up a mythtv or tvheadend backend.

Get a Pi3 or something, set up TVHeadEnd on it and have it take feed from the HDHomeRun. You also get recording by setting that up.

Kodi can then use the TVHeadEnd PVR, which works very well.
