Full Version: MCE remote with Live TV (from WMC to Kodi Live TV)

Hello,
I just moved to windows 10, and I am planning on giving up WMC for Kodi Live TV.
In the past I used both, WMC for live TV and Kodi for everything else.

My family needs a user friendly remote control to access: Guide, channel up, down, volume, back, forward within Kodi live TV.
With WMC it was easy as all my MCE remotes were already pre-program for WMC, but Kodi live TV is not.

What/how can I set up my MCE remote to map the button to the Guide, back, channel up, down... within Kodi Live TV, HDHomerun.
I install MCERemote but couldnt figure out how to do the config.

Thank you!

my setup
HTPC, windows 10, HDHomeRun 3 tuners, cablecard, MCE remote and Logitech Harmony remote.
Hi,

You can either get a MCE remote that has the keys / mappings pretty much by default (Only remote that i can confirm definately has the buttons you mentioned mapped by default is the xbox360 remote),
or use any RC6 remote and use Advanced Remote Mapper Tool to map some keys that are not by default,

Atreyu

it seems that some of the common buttons are not being recognized, like guide, live tv... on my remote in my pc. (I am using "Show off" software to see the keys).
My remotes are recognized as "Microsoft eHome Infrared Transceiver", it's a Rosewill RC6 and my Logitech Harmony is the same...
Have you checked the link i posted?
Its a very easy way to take care of any mapping that needs to be done.
Have some registry settings for an RC6 that I can share if you want

I would love to, please share. Wink

Based on my search, it seems that one windows update "broke, remove" some of the key mapping for MCE remote.
Now I need to understand how to add them back...
They stopped working some time back. I've had the same issue since updating to Windows 10. It seems they just aren't recognised as key presses by the OS anymore. There's already several posts about it on here. If you do manage to fix it I'd love to know how. I've had a few attempts over the months, but never found a solution. In the end I used a different remote with its own dongle.
I have found a tool here:
https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=164252 that I used to create a basis.

It is said that that tool has malware included or delivers false positives. I don't want to run any risks so I exported the registry settings and saved that as well. This is it:
Code:

It maps the Red button as alt-F4
The Green one goes to Music
The Yellow one goes to Pictures
The Blue one does windows + tab
The Green Button (WMC button) goes to start.
The "i" button shows info, basically pulls up a right mouse click and allows for deletion easily

The rest is mapped as it was in WMC. Live TV, Guide etc.
Yup. That's the tool i mentioned and got ignored ;-)

No malware btw, just some scanners are suffering from a form of hyperactivity
Atreyu, my sincere apologies... you are absolutely right! I was in a hurry earlier today so, I just quickly posted what I had noted in my personal manual. Only now I see that the link posted not only resembles the one you posted....it is exactly the same!

Sorry didn't mean to ignore you.
But it seems that I cannot fix the issue with the above suggestion.

Windows 10 doesn't recognized some of the keys from my remote as windows 7 did.

For example, in Advanced MCE Remote Mapper, I select line 26, TV Guide, column KEY. I would like to map it to my remote "Guide" (Duh! :-)), but the software/windows 10 doesn't recognized the key. I can press "1" or "volume up" and it will recognized it but all the buttons like:
Rec TV, Guide, Live TV, DVD Menu, are not recognized by W10.

I did a test with a raspberry pi, and Kodi recognized the key like GUIDE, it's a specific problem to Windows 10, and I haven't found any solution yet.

Not sure if I can copy and paste "Plantje" into my registry? If yes, how?
FYI, at the end, I am also going to use Logitech Harmony, but the GUIDE button will have the same issue...
= SOLVED =
ok, I found a way to fix it some how!!!

I downloaded the Registry Config from:
http://xbmccustomregis.sourceforge.net/remote_manu.html

Point 2.0 Registry Config, for windows 8. (Config_Win8.v1.41) Apply to my system.

Then I used the Kodi Add-on "Keymap editor" to remap the different key to their action...

and it works! finally. Now just need to spend sometime on the keymap editor toset up the remote.
