Hello,
I have a problem with kodi which appears suddenly and without to make any change or install something. The sound volume returns to 0 every time kodi restarts. I have no error or anything in kodi.log, and I searched a lot and tried different things but nothing works. I found that I can "fix" this problem if I delete guisettings.xml. Then the volume goes to 100% at the first start and after I adjust it the setting saved and survives after restart. But when I' m starting to reconfigure the ui again after a couple restarts the problem comes back again. I cannot find what is causing this problem because I get no warnings/errors in kodi.log and it reappears randomly. I found in guisettings.xml this entry:
Code:
<fvolumelevel>0,000000</fvolumelevel>
which seems that is related with the problem. Change this value manually in xml file doesn't make any differnece and it just falls back to 0,00000 when kodi restarts. Dven if I setted to another value and this value is written to the xml file with the restart goes again to 0.
I tried to put this entry to advancedsettings.xml but this ignored also. If I remove this entry completely from xml and restart kodi, then starts with volume 100% and again when I change it and restart it the volume goes again to 0. If I don't change it and leave it to 100%, then restarts with 100% again, but if I change it it goes to 0 at the next restart.
This is what I have in guisettings.xml for audio:
Code:
</defaultvideosettings>

        <mute>false</mute>
        <fvolumelevel>0,000000</fvolumelevel>
    </audio>

Any ideas what can cause this problem?
2 things spring to mind:
  • a connected device, like a game controller, is generating a mute or '-' signal.
  • the audio device isn't present when Kodi is started

maybe some logfiles, especially when the issue is triggered after deleting the gui.xml, might give us more clues about the cause.
I read about game controller in another thread. That isn't the issue because I haven't.
What you mean the audio device isn't present? I have(all times) this about audio when kodi starts:
Code:
18:08:22.389 T:140163726350080   DEBUG: PulseAudio: Context authorizing
DEBUG: PulseAudio: Context setting name
DEBUG: PulseAudio: Context ready
  DEBUG: PulseAudio: Stream ready
  NOTICE: PulseAudio: Opened device Default in pcm mode with Buffersize 150 ms
Log files give nothing more. I've already monitor and compare them, and there isn't any mentioned notice or error about this and no difference between configured and default guisettings.xml.
I'm no expert in reading logfiles but a full log might give someone a clue what's going on. there's no guarantee that a logfile will point to the cullprit but without it we're without any clues.

Alternatively, you could test (e.g. on an fresh portable copy of Kodi) wether a specific skin or addon is causing the problem.
You can't edit guisettings.xml when kodi is running. You need to stop kodi then edit.
