So far I have 3 movies that won't play with OSXBMC:

300 , Kung Fu Hustle and The Matrix. All 3 by ESiR.

Anyone got more movies on x264 that don't work?
what if the Pink Floyd bandmember wants to use your username ? Smile

What doesn't work ? try pastebin a Debug Log
I can confirm that this isnt a global issue, I have 3 macs in my house that all play those exact movies fine via XBMC.
300 (720p by ESiR) doesn't work for me either (I thought it was just me). I'm going to try the Matrix soon to see if that works or not. I also just downloaded the 1080p version of 300 to see if it'll work.
Work/doesn't work doesn't help us poor developers. Does your Mac catch on fire when you play the videos? Crash? Where's the log? Crash reports?

Thanks,

I will also say that the 300 by ESiR wont play.

Selecting it to play does nothing.

No crash, no freezing, nothing. Its as if clicking it is just null.

I also found the same behavior with Ice Age II 1080p from ESiR.
The file will however play in QuickTime.

They are both(Ice Age II, and 300) DTS encodes that may also have some impact. Not sure about the Matrix ones.

Curious to see if its encoding/container issue....

HERE is dump from when trying Ice Age II
Here is a sample

I read somewhere that it has to do with CABAC.

The HV versions from 300/The Matrix (not ESiR) are working fine. So the only movie currently not working is Kung Fu Hustle which is one of my 5 favourite movies of all time, a very very funny movie.
no edit button so a double post:

Which versions do you have of those 3 movies? I can confirm that the ESiR versions just won't play. They show up but they are not recognized as playable files.
It shows "Error creating demuxer" in the error log. I believe I've only seen that in one case, and it was the advanced subtitle track that was throwing it off. But I could be *completely* wrong.

I just verified that the sample does contain ASS subtitles. I think that's the problem. You can install mkvinfo (sudo port install mkvtoolnix) and check out the other files to see if this is the common theme.

They do all 3 have ASS subtitles where the HV versions from 300/The Matrix don't have them. And those 3 work. So that should be the problem. Anyone got more movies with ASS subs that don't work?
Hi

I have only installed Perian and XBMC.

Do you have The Matrix, 300 and Kung Fu Hustle in 720p by ESiR? I have 200+ movies. All of them work except these 2. There are lots of movies by ESiR that have ASS subtitles and they all work so it is not a problem of just the ASS subs I think.

OK, that's a good data point, thanks!

Here is another sample of the same movie also in 720p. But this time ripped by someone else and this one plays without problems. Maybe analyzing the differences between the 2 samples could help you?
