I am trying something different: Kubuntu 17.10 just for fun I hope.

Installed kodi:
sudo apt-get install software-properties-common
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:team-xbmc/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install kodi
then
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
then
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

It stops at kodi 17.3
I get a waring to upgrade kodi

to be honest I do not remember what version of kodi I had on xubuntu 17.04 a can only assume it was 17.4

any ideas?

thanks
I have the same problem.
Can't install kodi.

I used the unstable ppa. but get the following message when trying to install kodi:

sudo apt-get install kodi

Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
kodi : Depends: libass5 but it is not installable or
libass4 but it is not installable
E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.

Don't know how to fix this problem. And when installing the default kodi (in ubuntu repo) then you will get the 'old' 17.3 instead of 17.4.

Would be nice to know how to fix this.
there is no kodi 17.4 for ubuntu 17.10 atm, only v18 nightlies.
There will be 17.5 when it is released.
